Hi All, need a bit of help please

This EBJD is approx 2.5 years old, 7". I came home today to see what seemed to be my Clown Loaches eating away at its head. He has a white patch round his head/top of body. He is quite skittish, sometimes freaks out and goes colliding around the tank. He's been in my tank for about 3 months, still skittish, hoping he'll get better. My thinking on the wound is that he flipped out, hit his head/body against some driftwood and the wound has been made worse by the CL.

I have separated the ebjd from the main tank into another holding 3 big plecs (got tank yesterday, tank filtered already, all levels just been tested before big water change) which I plan to rehome to lfs tomorrow. I divided the plecs from the ebjd just to be on safe side. Added half dose melafix.

Can anyone identify from the pics below what I might be dealing with here? And how to treat? Would be much appreciated.

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Can you post water stats please.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing or excess mucas.
Any pitting in the head region.
Does the patch look fluffy.
Any redness to the patch.

Thanks for your reply Wilder.

I moved the EBJD from a 150 gallon community tank holding 1 EBJD (by far the biggest fish 7"), 8 Clown Loach (between 3" and 6"), 1 Sev, 1 Chocolate Cichlid, 6 Geophagus Red Head Tapajo's (all juveniles) and 2 Sajica. The tank he is has been in since last night, had 3 big common pleco's, which have just been donated to the lfs, its a 100 gallon tank that the EBJD now has to himself for a couple of days, then possibly a 55 by himself if need be, .

When I checked last night both tanks have Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, and Nitrates between 20-40, test kit always seems to give the same color for nitrates. I then did a big water change on the 100 gallon and have just rehomed the plecs, so will do another WC gravel vac.

No signs of flicking or rubbing. No fluffiness or redness. Maybe slight pitting. But it actually seems a little better then it did last night, so I'm hoping that WC's might be enough if it's a wound. What would you recommend? Thanks.

Thanks Wilder. I really hope its not HITH!! I checked him this morning and seems to be getting better, I'll keep him in isolation until he has fully healed. Cheers.

Ok.
Good Luck.
Just wanted to make sure with the fish having pitting in the head area.

Hi, the wound is slowly healing up but there is redness. It's in the form of a circle, alongside the rim of the wound. The centre of the wound is white. I only have Melaffix and Anti-Bacterial Interpet. Any of these any good? Otherwise anything I can get from MA tomorrow? Thanks.

Anti internal bacteria med by interpet. it sounds like columnaris which can present it's self on the head region.

Wounds that are white on the edges and red in the center are most typically Aeromonas. Those that are red on the edges and white in the center are generally Columnaris. Both are gram negative bacteria. The best treatment for this is any sulfa antibiotic with trimetheprim. This can be put in the water and mixed with food -- if you can find Romet B use it.

Thanks, Wilder. Been an incredibly busy weekend, so went solely with the Anti-Bacterial med by Interpet. The redness has more or less gone and the wound is healing up slowly. Hopefully the healing will continue, and he will be fully-fit once again.

That's good news then.
Don't cut the med to short.
Good Luck.

Hi, the wound is almost healed up, which is great news. Now, though some sort of fungus has started to form above the eye, around the head, very small, two main 'dots', sort of like cotton. Any advice is appreciated. I have added two pics, one side view which shows the fungus protruding. Thanks.

I would issolate him and use double dose of anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
