Wounded Cichlid

They have them divided by species (sometimes) but all sell for a general price.
I got the lab for $13, she's about 2.5 inches.

Thats weird! Over here they are always seperated by species into different tanks, sometimes 2 species to a tank and the prices are always different. At the moment we've got some 3" Yellow labs in at £12 each and some young 1" at £4 each. But then we've got 3" red zebras (Metraclima Estherae) in at £3.50 each and 2" Pseudotropheus socolofi in at £5 each.
So as you can see the prices range vastly. Also depends on where you get them from. Cheaper ones tend to come from Singapore and the most expensive are bred in farms on Lake Malawi.
Prices also depend on how rare they are, not just the species but also the colour varient.

What fish have you got in your tank Didz04?

Here is my stocking:

1 African Congo cichlid
1 Yellow lab
1 Johanni cichlid
2 malawi cichlids (male & female)
2 Pseudotropheus socolofi (blue) cichlids
2 Jewel cichlids
1 Dora catfish
1 Sucking loach
1 lyretail cichlid
1 tiger loach

Sorry, I was actually half wrong!
They have them divided by species, but they generally cost the same (but not always...). But, they do have big tanks that have assorted ones in there and then they are sold by size ($35 for med, $40 something for large...that's gone up in the past two months!!).

I ended up getting 4 new ones today, after loosing my crabo last night - I was gone for most of yesterday and I didn't think to look in on em when I got home (as their lights were already off) and this morning he was gone :(. He was FINE last time I checked though...didn't have cuts like the other one but did have a weird white patch on him...I wonder if he got burnt on the heater or something? It was very weird. I didn't think to get a picture though, sorry.
I ended up with the cheapest they had there, since I'm just really poor right now, and it still cost me $50 for 4. i got 3 "Assorted" which are basically bland females, I think, and an "assorted" peacock, which looks just like them. Odd. I don't care what they look like as long as the aggression level goes down. So that makes 11 fish, 12 once the yellow(who is done her 4 days and looks awesome, a little more re-growth needed before she goes back, though) goes back.
There are over half teh fish (new and old) crowded together in the top corner of the tank. I take it this is a bad sign :( Ugh I tried to educate myself before buying this fish, I swear...

If this doesn't work, I'm probably just going to either rehome the bully or put him in a separate tank by himself, which sucks but it's all I can do. He's already started bullying the new fish. I already know which fish is going to take over, though...the Johanni. But he's little, so I hope it'll be in vain.

I really hope they figure it out...

It usually takes them 24 hours to settle down when you add new fish as everyone is trying to establish their hierarchy. If it doesnt settle down then move some of the ornaments.
Btw, it wasnt a crabo, it was a lombardoi.
$50 for 4, thats what.....about £30??? Thats expensive

Ok Didz04...your yellow lab, socolofi and 2 unknown malawi cichlids (if they're mbuna) shouldnt be fed bloodworm, theres far too much protein in it for them and they could end up getting malawi bloat. The rest of the fish are fine, its just those mentioned need a lot more vegatable proteins and fibre. You need to feed them a cichlid pellet that states on the tub that its for african/malawi/mbuna cichlids, not just cichlids. Give them deshelled garden peas and cucumber, they'll love that! Spirulina flake or sticks is also a fantastic addition. The best diets are varied diets.

Also, im intrigued...what particular species is your 'African Congo cichlid' and 'Lyretail cichlid'?

I do give them vegetables for their diet but will be buying some more cichlid pellets i will look for the mbuna type.
The Congo's scientific name is Steatocranus tinanti and I think its a mbuna & the lyretail cichlid is a African and from the Lake tanganyika and the scentific name is Neolamprologus brichardi. Is this what you mean?

The Steatocranus tinanti isn't a mbuna, mbuna's are from lake malawi, the Steatocranus tinanti or Lionhead cichlid is from the congo river. Its an omnivoire so its fine eating bloodworm. The birchardi is also a omnivoire. Half of your fish are omnivoires and half are herbivores so you need to feed them like that.

Thanks for the help & will consider more variety foods for them :good:

No probs luv. I know mine cant get enough peas and cucumber, lol!

Update Time, I guess.
Well, I lost one of the new Cichlids to bullying. I just can't get this right. I reintroduced the lab today, she has really made a good recovery. When I did so I removed everything, put her in during the confusion, and re-hashed the tank layout. The bully is already being a jerk, he will pick a spot, then swim around to see what everyone else has, bully them out of their spot, and then go back to his own. I'm thinking of isolating him, but am not sure if that's the right move.
I should have just got goldfish, sheesh.
