May seem like a dumb question when you read the rest of the post, but apparently I wasn't born with the gift of common sense. ;)

Anyway I went into my science room today and noticed that there was a fish tank! I think "yay! fish!" until I realise that I am in my science room. (The whole common sense thing.. ) The tank is about two ft long, with three small fake plants, but no light and from what I can see there isn't a filter either.
There's 5 Boesami Rainbows in there.

I started to worry because of the fact that its in a science room! am i panicking about nothing but wouldn't all the fumes and gases and everything affect the water? theres always some sort of gas around and loads of fumes and chemicals that we use!
also the fact that there is more than likely going to be a couple of immature boys (soz 2 say it but it always is!) that will pour acid or some chemical or something into the water when the teacher is out of the room because thats what they think is fun.

Any thoughts on this? Im not really sure what to do!

xx

Couldt you ask the head teacher if if could be moved into the reception? Im sure it would be much nicer for all visitors to look at. Also if you explain how a fish tank should be looked after im sure you will get a job as as fish tank monitor perhaps? Just a suggestion :)

oOo I never thought of that! at our school you actually have to pay £20 to send a letter to the headteacha and she never seems to be around so it could be a bit tricky but I could try! :)

xx

Maybe tell your science teacher to ask the head for free? Im sure will bump into the head in the staff room. or you could stage a save the fish in the science lab campaign..that would work. :D

£20 WTF omg thats rediclious i would ***** slap that teacher back to last year if she told me to do that
then again i have a problem with head teachers and the way they run things they suck!!!

i find it very upsetting to hear that a student with an issue has to pay money to address the headmaster/principal

I thought the phrase 'Do we have to pay to talk to you now?' was just a joke for when people got promoted, i never realised some people actually do charge!! Christ! Yeah just express your concerns with the science teacher or the deputy head (or do they charge £10?) and the reception thing is a good idea. :)

Personally i would make in into some kind of school project, get as many people behind you by petition, bang it into a school news letter and while your on the subject of 'save the fish' a nice little article on how disgusting it is to charge 20 notes to talk to the head!!! It might get some brownie points from all involved too as well as saving them poor little fishes... :yahoo:

it may be the science teacher's tank, and in that case, he/she may not want to give it up, but i haven't met a teacher yet who wasn't impressed by a student having knowledge of something that interests them - let alone a science teacher. Actually, being on talking terms with a teacher is a good plan anyway because they'll just about let you get away with murder. Not that I would know from experience, or anything :shifty:

Anywho, talk to your teacher. You may not be able to get it moved, but you may be able to get their environment improved otherwise (hiding places etc.) Also, yeah, vapours and what not can cause problems, but they may not, especially if there is a lid on it. Plus the fish may have become accustomed to those chemicals in trace amounts, sort of like how a fish can live forever in water that's never been changed, but the minute you clean their tank, they die.

Maybe I'm being naive, or maybe I just grew up where/when this stuff didn't happen, but I don't think highschool kids are as awful as most everybody makes out. From my experience, most of them just wouldn't care to do anything to the tank, good or bad, not to mention when MY science teacher wasn't in the room, it was completely locked up. And no one pulled anything when she was around.

That is something that you should be complaining about. Your headteacher should be available for your problems. Fair enough they may need to go through a secretary first so as to keep things manageable but you shouldn't be penalised for wanting to contact them.

Now I'm curious, obviously for privacy you shouldn't disclose which school you go to but it it a private or state school that's doing this? Is it an overly large school that requires several layers of management ? :X

If this is a state school then you have actually got real grounds for complaint. Are only the wealthy 'good enough' to speak to the head teacher? I wonder what the local paper/MP would make of such a system.

my god that's atroscious that you have to pay to talk to the head, i'd ring my local paper about that and get them to run a story on it, bet they'd be uproar and they'd soon change that rule.

The world has officially gone crazy
I have never heard of having to pay to talk to a head teacher!
I agree, ring the local paper and kick up a stink. With schools being the way they are nowadays, teachers should be encouraging pupils to talk to them, not charge them!!!!

wow what alot of replies lol! thanks everyone!
yeah i agree its very frustrating about having to pay to talk to the head but our school tries everything they can to make money. :(
i go to a state school and no-one ever really sees the head around anyway!!
i'm in my last year here and we are all on really good terms with our teachers anyway and yeah i agree they do let us get away with murder!
it could be the teacher's tank but I am still worried because some of our lads are immature enough to put something in the tank!
i think what I am going to do is say something to my teacher; just ask if it's his tank, how long its been there etc (im thinking if it's been there for a long time then the water/fish may have adjusted to the chemicals like you said)! :)

if i ever see the head around, though it is very unlikely lol, I will say something about it and see if we can get it moved! even if it is the science teacher's tank it would still be better in reception!

thanks again for all your replies guys!
