Bit of a weird question here, but just wondered what people's opinion was on using fish food that had dropped on the floor? Is it still safe, or could it be contaminated? My personal opinion is just to carry on using it - but wanted to see what the general viewpoint on this forum was?

Um... depends on the kind of food.
Flake... probably safe but too much of a hassle to pick up each individual flake
pellets, sure!
frozen food... if it's still frozen in the cube, sure, but it it's been defrosted a little, no way.
maybe I'm just weird though, :D

As long as the fish food isn't stale and you don't use any harsh chemicals to clean your floor and you don't pick up any fluff/hair etc as you retrieve the food from the floor, IMHO it should be fine to feed the food to the fish  .

depends on where it dropped reli, and what state/type of food it was....As a general rule, I only feed food to any of my fish, if I would be happy to eat it myself, in their position, knowing where it had come from and how t had been treated. If you droped some of you lunch in that spot, would you pick it up and eat it?

Now I think I'm the weird one :p

Fish food that hits the floor here becomes dog food in less than a second.

Mine becomes cat food, and I have to hide food in bags/containers because Bailey will run off with them.

Yeah i agree :good: .
I have to say, that if i drop a peice of toast that i have just buttered up on the floor, and i'm really in the mood for eating toast with butter on it, and the floor was recently cleaned and the toast looks none for the worse of being dropped on the floor, then i will probably eat the toast. My fiance thinks its really gross, but i hate wasting food and the way i see it, as long as the toast looks clean then its fine to eat  .
