I'd be buying two of these. In your opinion would they be safe for my aquarium?

Not with the backgrounds, only with the company.

You cannot hide a heater behind anything as it will either damage it or the background whilst not doing it's job properly. Some people have cut a channel for their's to sit in but this causes problems with water circulation around the heater. Best idea would either be place it on the side glass or get an inline external heater (Hydor do one).
