Would these fish be ok for a 100L community tank?

I am setting up a 100L planted aquarium and these were the fish I have in mind:

-3 male tiger Endler guppies
-A few tetras of some kind, neons or cardinals (I'm open to suggestions)
-4 or 5 cherry shrimp
-Some apple snails
-Maybe some barbs?

I was originally going to get some angelfish or a dwarf gourami or two. I heard that they aren't compatible with shrimp. I also wanted some kind of corydora or Pleco but I have gravel...

Some of the Barbs are cool, look at Cherry Barbs and Checkered Barbs. Checkered Barbs are one of the most under rated fish around.

Hi you have a mix of soft and hard water fish on your list there - do you know how hard the water is in your tank? It’s best to stick to what’s from your tap and use it as a starting point to build your community.

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?

What is the GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness) and pH of your water supply?
This information can usually be obtained from your water supply company's website or by telephoning them. If they can't help you, take a glass full of tap water to the local pet shop and get them to test it for you. Write the results down (in numbers) when they do the tests. And ask them what the results are in (eg: ppm, dGH, or something else).

Depending on what the GH of your water is, will determine what fish you should keep.
Angelfish, most tetras, barbs, Bettas, gouramis, rasbora, Corydoras and small species of suckermouth catfish all occur in soft water (GH below 150ppm) and a pH below 7.0.

Livebearers (guppies, platies, swordtails, mollies), rainbowfish and goldfish occur in medium hard water with a GH around 200-250ppm and a pH above 7.0.

If you have very hard water (GH above 300ppm) then look at African Rift Lake cichlids, or use distilled or reverse osmosis water to reduce the GH and keep fishes from softer water.

I'm in Perth too so the water is probably similar to yours, wouldn't it be?

The KH is 7 (125ppm)
The GH is 8 (140ppm)
and the PH is 7.6

The tank dimensions are:
65.5cm long
38cm wide
46cm high

Hope that helps

Enter your fish of choice into the search box on seriouslyfish.com then click on it when it returns your fish. There’s just about everything you need to know about them on there apart from who they’re likely to get along with or not. This place can help you with that.
Searching fish info got pretty addictive during lockdown for me.

So you have pretty neutral water which is great, ph is a little high but hardness is the main feature to deal with :)

From all the fish you mentioned, you are right there are some fish that would be advisable not to get, the tank isnt big enough for most Plecos or Angelfish. The Gourami could be a choice but I would go for a Sparkling or Honey Gourami rather than Dwarfs, Dwarfs have been over bred these days and are quite weak and also prone to an uncurable disease which is pretty widespread these days. Some Barb species may be ok but some do better in hard water so worth checking which ones you like as there are a lot of different species.

Tetras would be a good choice, main limit being the size but you are right thinking of the torpedo shaped ones like Neons and Cardinals. Unfortunately the Endlers need harder water than you have so I would pass on these.

Apple snails are quite big and messy creatures so you might want to look at a smaller species of snail like Nerites or Ramshorns would be better. I think Cherry Shrimp would be ok but I'd get more than 5 to start with, you could also consider Amanos which are not as colourful and get a bit bigger but are hardier.

Its a shame you have gravel in the tank already - would it be an option to change over to sand? In a smallish size tank like this its good to get some smaller fish on the bottom that would be cool to keep here and gravel does limit that down.

How about a stocking plan like

3 Sparkling Gourami (1m 2f)
10-15 Tetras (Neons, Glowlights, Platinum, Ember, Black Neons, Cardinals) - any would be ok number would depend on which one Embers are the smallest Cardinals are the biggest.
10 Pygmy Cories
10 Cherry Shrimp
5 Nerite Snails

For everyone playing along at home Wills, which are hard and which are soft ?
My fish got sent down the river for GbH; it was inevitable raising Crystal Palace supporters
In my eyes they're all hardcore.

The hardest fish are probably Millwall supporters, you have to board their tanks up on match days!
