Hi guys, I think I know round about what fish I want in my tank which is a Rena 180L Bow Fronted 100cm Base Tank, I used the formula to determine the lenght of the amount of fish I could have and this is what I came up with

Heres the list:

6 x Thick Band Zebra Rasbora
4 x Zebra Danio
8 x Guppy
12 x Neon Tetra
3 x Zebra Loach
2 x Steel Blue Killifish
2 x Cherry Fire Shrimp
1 x Stone Loach

I dont want breeding in the tank so they will hopefully all be male, can anyone see anything in there that would be a problem?

Not shure about the stone loach, but everything else looks good from a mixing point of view. The Zebora loach would need a bigger number idealy, say 5-6.... Same with the Zebora danio... :good:

Assuming you up the numbers to recomended minumum numbers, you will have 74inches of fish, excluding the Stone loach. Thats heavier than recomended, but if you don't mind some extra waterchnges, then it is by all means manageable :good: (Assuming the stone loach is small and does not need a group ;) )

All the best

I don't think you will see the shrimp very often only having 2 in there plus the loaches are likely to eat them.

Plus if you are going to try and get male shrimp you need to know that male cherry shrimp aren't as colourful as the females so will be even less visible.

A couple more Danio's has been taken onboard, I've just been looking into the loaches and they get bigger than I originally expected so I will probalby go with Panda Cory or a similar Cory instead.
I made the length of the fish approx 63 inches going by the size chart on Aquatic Life Direct which is over the quota of fish but I could go a few less tetra and guppy maybe.

Ive had a slight change of mind and have decided against the killifish, zebra and stone loach and go for a few peppered Cory and and 2 Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami, would that cause a problem with the other fish in there?

IME male dwarf gourami will go for fish with long tails, so no males gouramis with male guppies. Two females will be OK though :good: With dwarf gourami, you need two females to a male, and a maximum of one male per 50g to avoid agression issues, or all females or one lone male.

Peppered corries need a group of arround six :good:

Otherwise, all looks good. :good:

Ok this is the final choice:

4 x Thick Band Zebra Rasbora
6 x Zebra Danio
8 x Guppy
12 x Neon Tetra
6 x Peppered Cory
2 x Dwarf Gourami (Female)

As im doing a fishless cycle how much of that would you suggest I put in when its cycled, I know they reckon wait 6 months for the corys and Tetra's but are the rest ok straight away?

I was hoping originally to get the Corys in first :(

I'd be quite happy to add everything except from the DG's that are very delicate and the guppies, which are also very flimsy if they are trade fish (I.E not from a local breeder/wild stocks). I have never had any issues when adding the other fish in to a cycled tank. Neon's and corries won't like the cycling, but you avoid those issues with fishless. The Danios and Rasboras are usual ones people use for fish-in's, so they will be perfectly fine in a newly fishless cycled tank :good:

Yes, if the fishless cycle's done well then I'd agree with rabbut that you could choose a fairly big initial stocking like that. If you want to be slower and more conservative, perhaps watching and getting the feel of your tank a bit longer then the perfect division would seem to be to introduce the rasboras and danios as your fish for the first few months and then slowly add the others, species by species at later times as you find good specimens in the shops.

Thanks for the reply's guys, as I dont live on mainland Britain I will have to fly over and get them so really I would like to get a fair amount of the fish straight away as I dont have the luxury of just jumping in the car and grabbing some more :/
But thats fine though, I will go with the above list except guppys and gouramis!

you might want to look into mail order from somewhere like trimar, not sure if they'll deliver to you not knowing your location but they have excellent quality stock reasonable prices and come very highly recommended.

Yeah I have had a look at there website, maybe I will give them a go if they come so highly recommended.

They are excellent, i've personally ordered from them and i know a significant number of people on this forum have as well, never heard one bad report about them, best in the business in the UK IMHO.

Its also quite handy that there in Cambourne and I live in the Isles of Scilly, Ive got a hospital appointment for my newborn in Truro next Tuesday I will go and have a look and sound them out about getting them sent over. :)
