I have been doing a lot of reading whilst my new tank is cycling, considering options for having plants in with the fish

I have the use of a greenhouse and was wondering if I could pot the plants up until they are rooted then transfer them to my tank in pots, that way if they started looking worse for wear I could always replace them

If I used the appropriate substrate would the cuttings and bare rooted plants take if only emersed rather than immersed ?

potted plants or aquatic plants ????
Potted aquatic plants

yes potted aquatic plants would work
planted in aquatic soil or compost
i know people with U/G filters and they
use potted plants my planted tank which
i am about to set up in the next few weeks
as aquatic soil overlaid with play sand
i am using an external filter and i am
going to use a home made co2 system that's
on a thread on this forum

i imagine that once immersed, they would shed the leaves and would have to go through a transaction type thing (word please?) of being a fully immersed plant. makes for a rather ugly tank for a while lol

Strictly low tech for me, I have nothing but admiration for the guys who go high tech (and their tanks), but if you start usind co2 you have to have the lighting then you have to make the stuff. in my opinion for me it would be like the tail wagging the dog

Transition

I was under the impression that most of the plants supplied were grown emersed ?

a lot of plants supplied from shops are grown emersed, and go through a transition (thanks lol, had a super brain fart) when planted in our tanks and shed leaves to grow ones for being immersed.. if that makes sense. people think their plants are dying when really they aren't

So either way they are going to look crap at some stage
