I'm getting mega impatient now
because I'm into my fourth week on my ND aquarium order (60" x 18" x 24") and reading the threads on here (whilst useful and fun) is making me even more eager to start my new tank (not had one for 4 years!) This time I want the tank to be far better than any of the previous setups I've had and want to go for all (or almost all) live plants. Furthermore I kind of want a second tank to go in my room beside my tv, but there is little room. So my thinking was,
If I was to buy a lower end, small aquarium now whilst waiting, I could perhaps get a mini cycle going and harvest my plants so that come delivery day and set up of the larger tank, I've got some plants that have had a bit of growing time. I was thinking perhaps after I've got the small tank running (I have family with media for the cycle) I could use it as a quarantine tank and just keeping say 2 or 3 fish in it at a time for perhaps a longer period than the usual quarantine period to ensure they're healthy and then after I've got the big tank stocked perhaps just keeping some small fish in it that are too shy or incompatible for the main tank (which will be mainly barbs).
I just don't know what to do
because it is obviously a good idea to have a quarantine tank set up, but am I just getting carried away with myself by paying money for a tank set up that will be overshadowed by the beast I'm getting. But, would using a small tank as a nursey (before fish were added) be better for doing a CO2 system, in that smaller volume/higher concentration of C02 to give them a kick start??
Perhaps the best advice would be to calm down and wait?

.. It'd come with the filter, lighting and heater and if I order it now it could be here by the weekend (I'd hope!) 
It's not only that, but because I want different things from the big set up than I had with any of my previous tanks I could 'trial' them out on a more affordable scale on the small tank first, say the substrate etc..
