i am watching someone on ebay selling various softie frags(cheap at the moment) within fairly reasonable travelling distance from me. my question is this, at the moment my water hasn't been tested but all of the hitchikers that came with my LR (transported in water) are doing well and this includes a mushroom coral. I am thinking of bidding on some of these but wanted advice from you guys first, will it be ok to try this....... cheers Kevin

Test your water params first I'd say mate. Sg of around 25, zero phosphate, very low nitrate and good ph/kh.

What lighting do you have?

i would test your water

25 sg
0 ammonia
0 nitrite
8 ph
no more than 10 nitrate-some softies prefer a bit of nirtate

+3 for testing your water first.

at the mo 2x 38w t8's thats why its softies only for me at this time

Couldn't you swap the ballast for a T5 jobbie. They usually come pre wired with T5 lamp holders. Just need lamps!

As fishy says keep nitrates below 10 as some coral do like nutrients.

Ah, but dont you remember that our Kevin is a naughty boy and has not bought his test kits yet  so, get you and your water down to the lfs and ask them to test for you :good: they usually do it for free if not busy

I remember, assumed he'd go to a lfs and get it tested. But honestly, I'd just buy the test kits already... Mine have already been ordered.
