Would a firemouth kill a betta if i tried to add one to his tank?figureing one sticks to the top and one to the ground could they get along?

Depends on the firemouth. In some cases, yes, in some cases, maybe. Honestly, it'd just be easier to buy a 5 gallon tank and keep one alone.

I want one but its more like a if i can i might rather then an I need to. Figured no harm in asking. My firemouth hated a gourami with him so i didn't think it'd be the best idea. Though i can't imagine the firemouth actually doing damage.

If it hated a gourami, it probably won't take kindly to a betta either  the betta probably wouldn't take abuse from the firemouth as well as a gourami would, either.

The betta will have no chance up against a firemouth.
I wouldnt do it.

Odds are the firemouth would not cause any actual damage. It would scare it into hiding instead. At least from my experience.

Firemouths tend to be bluffers. They don't really bite, but they do scare the crap out of other fish with the bluff display.

Maybe you could try a killifish instead? They always hang really close to the top, moreso than bettas. but you'll need a tight lid if yours isn't tight already, they're pro jumpers, and if the firemouth goes for it, that guy's gonna be makin a jump for it.

I'm not really looking to add to my tank. I've just been considering getting a betta. My tanks pretty much stocked and maybe some over atm. Plenty busy up top with the diamonds.

Just out of curiosity, how shy is your FM? Mine used to be really comfortable, out and about front and center of the tank, but after growing a bit and adding a few live plants, he's been shy as heck and he always goes into hiding after I walk up to the tank.

He might just be scared of me now, though. After having my hands in the tank for a while after adding stuff.

He used to be super shy around me. Like I would only see him if he didn't think I was in the room, but now he equates me with food. When i enter the room he still books it to his fav hiding spot but after a couple seconds to a couple minutes (depending on his mood) he comes out. sometimes coming up to the glass and staring at me almost as if he is begging for food. Not as much personality as some other cichlids I have had/have but it's still there
