Transferred my mixed batch of fish 48 hours ago into a bigger tank with double the volume of water - used some of the old water and added fresh water to fill - so an equivalent of maybe 60-70% water change. (Using ALL media from old filter into new to maintain ammonia and nitrite detox).
Hadn't noticed them doing this in old tank, but my albino cories must like the new set up, as they're laying eggs! Just observed one (maybe both, I can't tell them apart!) laying eggs BUT on the front glass of the tank! Central! Slap bang in full view of ALL the other inmates! The ruby barbs thanked them very much and followed within seconds, eating them all!!
I'm not sure what mix of male to female cories I have (I also have bronze ones), but it looks unlikely that we'll ever get babies, if they lay in such silly places, under the noses of the barbs!
I fell sorry for them but what idiots?!

Corys always lay eggs on glass, It's just what they do.

Yup, and on leaves or if you are a breeder you might have an egg mop for them.

I actually prefer them placing eggs on the glass. Makes it very easy to move them :D

Sorry to hijack the post, but it's sort of relevant; what conditions promote cory breeding? I have a group of six peppered corys, don't know male:female ratio, or even if I have a mix, just assume that probability is high for at least one of each sex, pH 7.6, medium hardness, temp 25C. Thanks.

@DrSlackBladder

For me the conditions for breeding are as follows...

I feed my cory tank containing 4 Females, 8 Males, with Bloodworms, twice a day for a few days.
The day before I want them to spawn, I do a 50% water change, but make sure the water is approx 2-4 Degrees below the current tank Temp.
Sometime in the night they get busy, and when I wake up, EGGS !

Pritty easy to do it now.

Tank conditions need to be 0/0 for Ammonia / Nitrite and as low as possible for Nitrate. My PH is approx 7.2.

So, Feed well for a few days... Change 50% water (2-4 Degrees Colder).... Harvest the Eggs a few hours after spawning to make sure they harden off.

Sexing them is kinda easy.. Females tend to be bigger than the males, but they are also wider. Males are a little taller, if you get what I mean.

Thanks Shaddex, should be able to manage that environment, will give it a try! Knowing my luck I'll have six males

Well as you are only in Chester, you are welcome to a few of the 170+ eggs I currently have in my hatchery lol.
Should be a few females in those numbers..

Mine rarely lay on the glass, in fact I can't remember collecting eggs from the glass, always on/below plant leaves, powerheads and the intake pipes. I wish they did it on the glass though, way easier for me.
