:-( This is so sad. I had my guppy drop 6 fry in the breeding trap. 5 of them were alive and swimming 1 was dead and there was 1 undeveloped fry/egg.

Then I've noticed my angelfish and Yellow lab hanging out at the bottom of the trap when i looked closer again I've noticed that yellow lab sucked fry right out of the breeding trap through the bottom part. I almost started crying. ( well I think i did shed a tear) This is worse then I thought it would be. My first time of having pregnant guppy turned out to be such a dissapointment.

And now I only have 2 fry left. What should I do???? I sent my husband to the store to buy me breading net so I can try and may be transfer fry and mom in there or somehow attach net to the trap.

Any other advice would be helpful.

P.S. I know yellow lab is different species then the rest of my fish, I just need to find a good home for him. and If i can't do that I would have to get rid of him. (which i don't want to do is killing him. He is a very beautifull fish)

I have had the same thing happen to me. My pakastani loach used to suck babies out of the slits in the trap at night. I used to put some weed in the trap so the babies can hide in it. I have now bought myself a breeding trap that is made of netting, so that the other fish cannot get at the babies. A few weeks ago I had some baby platties in my breeding net. After 5 weeks I decided that they were big enough to put in the main tank. I tipped them in carefully only to witness to my horror most of them getting eaten by my Angelfish. I didnt realise that they were still small enough for him to eat! I now have some young mollies and I wont make the same mistake again.

If you have a second tank, I recommend moving the fry to there. You could also put them in a breeding net.

If you have no home for the yellow lab, then give him to your LFS. Or even a friend or relative.

I do have a 10g tank but its not set up. I will set it up before going to work and when I come back hopefully I would be able to transfer fry to that tank, hopefully by then she will be done (she still looks very big, and still has her gravid spot. So I am pretty sure there will be more fry )

and for the yellow lab I tried to give him to my friends. But most of them have Oscars or other very agressive sichlids like convicts and such. and our other bigger tank holds one oscar. But i don't feel safe putting YL in there. I know oscar will eat him.
Our local store won't take him. ( i live in a small town with only 2 pet stores. ) I will try to post add in the newspaper may be someone might want him.

i Found they can still suck at them in the net and sometimes even kill them from doing so the best advice i think would be to put a net over the plastic breeder and this may stop them getting eaten or sucked out.
