Looking for an ID/ way to get rid of these worms. About 2 cm long, 2mm thick.
Just noticed about 4/5 of them in the substrate. I don't think itā€™s Planaria, also has a sucker??
The only thing I've added recently is a Nerite Snail, which died.

edit: added more photos

Never seen or heard of these before, Iā€™m only replying so I can track the learning curve of this thread...

Good luck! Hope someone else can help you with this.

leech perhaps?
I caught a couple in a jar and they definetely look like leeches. Any insight how to get rid of them?

Itā€™s definitely a leech, Iā€™ve deduced them to be Asian Freshwater Leech. I managed to catch around 5 and have them in a mason jar to inspect. Iā€™m hoping they donā€™t go after my fish cause they have a very good grip on whatever they attach to. Iā€™ll add more pics when I get home cause Iā€™m perplexed as to how Iā€™ve gotten them o_O

When was the last time you added something new to the aquarium? And where did you get it?

I would be going back to that place and look for some answers.
Also, in the spirit of not spreading new species, I wouldnā€™t release them into the wild, make sure they are dead dead before disposing of them.

Yes, I said dead twice.

I bought a single Nerite snail about 3 weeks ago from Pollys Pet Shop in San Antonio. It died after about a week. Iā€™ve had trouble with them in the past so I am probably never going back.

Iā€™ll probably put them on ice if they survive the jar.

If they arenā€™t native, Iā€™d put them on salt. Then bleach em. Then squash em with a hammer.

Iā€™m by no means an expert on leeches, but I wouldnā€™t risk putting them on ice and having them survive that.

100% I panicked anytime one slipped out of the forceps. Immediately ordered shoulder length gloves ? Iā€™m debating burning the whole house down cause I canā€™t even?
i dont think thats what killed your snail.snail leeches dont look like that. also put it in salt not ice. youi can watch it suffer or burn it idk tho maybe freeze it. (ok i think im getting too into torturing leeches)

LOL, talk about overkill :)

Salt will normally do the job. Add 2 heaped tablespoons of rock salt for every 20 litres (5 gallons) of tank water. Keep the salt in there for 2 weeks then stop using salt.

Leeches come in on plants and don't normally attack fish but can. You can remove any physically and put them in a container of water with salt. Then salt the tank to make sure no babies pop up. You don't normally get leeches breeding in tanks but sometimes babies do appear. Salting the tank should prevent this.

That amount of salt wonā€™t effect any of the fish I have?
Pleco, rainbow shark, corys and rainbow fish.

I donā€™t know about the other species, but cories are very sensitive to salt, you may want to remove them and place them in quarantine if you add salt to the main tank
