Woohoo, Albino!

Hey that is great!

I have a question tho - if you have seen other albinos (as I have not)...
Are they all irridecent? Because I would have assumed albinos would be glass, and lackng irrid.
(Myself I prefer irrid, but just curious)

Good luck with it, I am sure you will be the one to do some good gene figuring as a result!

Hmm, good idea ManyFISH4Me! Why didn't I think of that? :X It's probably a random mutation the line isn't going to carry, but I'll see if I can pick up a couple of females just incase. Maybe even another male if one is available and he'll give me a discount

fawnmodel -- All the ones I've seen pics of have had that slight iridescence on the fins, there's a pic of one on Jim Sonnier's website here and I've seen a couple of others. Iridescent pigment is actually waste product deposited as pigment crystals in the skin, so it would kinda make sense for it to still be there... might not be there if the fish came from an opaque line, I suppose. Wonder if it would still have opaque coating?

EDIT:
hi sam i have many sibling available but not albino
please let me know if you interested
i ll send the female as well...
i have one male left i suspect he is albino, but i dont know for sure...
Suspect he is albino??? If so the line totally carries the gene and getting sibling females was definitely the right decision. The chances of the same random mutation occurring twice in the same spawn is like... impossibly small... so that would pretty much mean that both parents were carriers, and those two albinos are the only ones that survived to adulthood out of the 25% of the spawn that inherited two copies of the gene. He says he'll send a pic of the other male tomorrow, so we'll see if he's albino or not I guess. He also says he'd give me a good discount if I bought the other male (and yes, it's realy good)... I wish he hadn't said that, because now it's really tempting, and I'm already spending money on female siblings :(

Double post, so sue me.
I haggled him down a little on the females and snagged myself 4 for a reasonable price, that ought to insure I get an albino carrier if the line does carry it. Statistically, 50% of all non-albino offspring carry the gene in a line that carries it, so 4 ought to be enough, right? That will insure I can at least make some albinos, if not raise them to adulthood, with the females alone if the line carries the gene, even if the male is infertile. Carrier x non-carrier = 50% carriers in the F1, carrier x carrier = 25% albinos genetically in the F2. This is gonna be fun!! :D

Like I said, pics of the other male coming tomorrow. Exciting! I bet the females are pretty too, they're from copper and marble lines. He's also sending me at least one CT to enter in the betta show this weekend, lol, and written permission so I can do so since I'm not the breeder, obviously. He said the fish is for me, but send him the trophy

Double post, so sue me.

I promise I won't sue. More information is always good. I post back to back often. I keep planted journals, you can't expect people to comment after EVERY post, that's just too much to ask for.

The great thing about this is that you, at least from what I know about what you've been breeding, are already working with Marbles, coppers, and CTs, so this acquisition is right up your alley. Your future posts on Aquabid are going to be hysterical. Selling CTPK Copper/Marble/Albino geno. Why don't your throw in a few DTs for good measure. DTCTPKs with Copper/Marble/Albino genomes anyone?  Oh, and let's not forget your Albimarginatas!

Great job haggling! Post pictures when you get them. :good:

Yeah, that's what I was thinking lljdma06! Even if they're not albino carriers, those ladies will still make good additions to my future CT plakat line(s)

CHILD! Do you EVER sleep? :hyper:

Thought that was what your were thinking. ;)

You'll be pretty famous if you can make a pure albino strain of bettas, Synirr. And congrats on the albino (s)!
