I got some Mopani Root Wood for my tank about 2 weeks ago now. I am soaking it in water to get the dye out and was wondering how long it will take to get the water stay clear when I put the wood in?

IMO, mopani wood is not too bad for leaching tanins & two weeks sounds about right. This does vary though with individual wood peices.

You could add activated carbon to your filter for a week if you are not happy, the best, most effective types are usually granualated forms as opposed to 'rocks'.

Well when i put boiling water in the bucket with the wood in more dye comes out. When I put luke-warm in hardly any comes out.

After 2 weeks the wood will be fine to add to your tank.

If you find that the wood is leaking tannins into your tank you can either remove the tannins via a water change or by adding some fresh activated carbon to your filter.

I actually like a little bit of tannins in the water, I think it looks more natural and most of your fish will like it too so its nothing to worry about, as long as it isnt turning the water dark brown.

Ok cool. I will add the wood tonight and probs add some pics of my tank for you to give me feedback on. I will let it stand for 30 mins in some boiling water and then some cold then add it! Check back in an hours or so for pics!
