Hi all

i have just bought a newish second hand tank, very good condition, dimensions 120cm x 40w x 45h,according to the calculator its 48 imp gals (216 l), :good: it had 2 heaters, various foods, bottles of tank cleaner etc,2 books of fishes, timers, large magnet cleaner,no filter unfortunately, but i am waiting for an external to come,i planned to put it on my 20 gal
All for £90!! :good:

Do you think the tetratec ex 700 canister will be adequate for this tank?

Also there is a backing inside the tank that has been stuck on with silicone, looks rough in appearance,do you think this could be removed or best leave it?

here's a pic what the tank and stand looks like, although the dimensions are not the same.

I'm just undecided whether to cycle it from scratch or put the media from the 2 filters from my 20 gal straight into the canister when it comes, but that means transferring all the fish across also!has i haven't got the room to keep the 20 gal as well, which is a shame!

If i did clone using the filter media straight into the new external, and move the fish across would i get a mini cycle?
I don't intend to add addition fish just yet.

Sorry for all the questions, but i hope you can help :)

:thanks:

Last night i partly filled the tank to make sure there was no leaks, the backing had become wet and stank to high heaven this morning,on closer inspection i noticed the backing was covered in algae.

so i decided to remove the backing and spent 2 hours scrapping the silicone off the tank,

Anyway thats done, still waiting for the filter to come.

If it was a structured background I'd have taken it off anyways. That's valuable fish space that it's filling! :D

Congrats on the new tank.

If it were mean and there was enough room in the new canister for the mature filter media then I would shove it all in there (with all of the fish) for at least 4 weeks to seed the new filter. Then if you want the other tanks back up n running remove the old media and pop it back into the filters it came out of.
You may experience a mini cycle, but I doubt it.
