Woah.... Never Underestimate A Gt.

yesterday night late i returned from my holiday in the nederlands, a neighbour of mine fed the fish etc. while we were away. any problems and my dads friend would come by to check the fish were ok. first thing i thought to do was check all my tanks to see if any damage had ocured. not only was every single fish fine but a small miracle ocured in my big tank. just before i left i rehomed my florida gar from the tank because he was getting to big and agressive, no problem. but in the 2 weeks that teh gar had been gone, my male green terror 7", is now 8" and has a huge lump on his head. before he had no lump atall. now i am familiar with nuchal humps etc. but i was just wodnering if removing the gar made him more dominant and coem out better? but now he is deffinetely a show standard fish. alot better than any green terror i could " google " il try and get some pics.

Yeah, it sounds as though removing the Gar caused the GTs nuchal hump.
Pics would be cool.

this fish has really suprised me since i got it. getting a pic is gonne be hard to load up but i will once i have given the tank a good clean as its about due. does anybody think that hes gonne continue liek this, and just how big a nuchal hump can a GT grow?

They dont get that big. Im guessing what you are seeing now is as big as it likley to get.

Actually in a large tank, a size of 8-10" is not uncommon, especially for a gt who is dominant in its tank.

I mean the nochal hump Lol ... They can get bigger than 8inches, infact I have seen one scraping 11inches.

I thought GT's would start to develop the hump after they reached maturity. It had NO hump at all before the gar was moved? Mine has no hump and is 5 inches, but my red devil is 4.5" and has a hump so i assumed the GT would have one if it was a male

It is a sign of maturity however 7 times out of ten they will only show when they are, or feel, the most dominate fish in the tank.

lol, actually funny u should say that there is a lovely male up my lfs over a foot. so 8" is more the smallest it will get, some websites say 14" for red devil, we all know a male can reach 18"-20" given the chance...

Id like to see those pics of your GT, I think my GT is one of the best shaped/looking GT's ive seen (certainly locally round me). I find a fair few have odd shapes, maybe from interbreeding of stocks, cant say for sure.
