Well, I have been kicking around the idea for some time now of getting a plakat and with Wizard's passing I now have the room.

Was browsing around Ebay today and found this 3 month old HM plakat from the same breeder I purchased M.G. & Big Red from.

At three months I think his colors are outstanding. Have decided to call him Sinbad - don't know why. The name just popped into my head and I liked it. :hyper:

I will be getting him Wednesday - I'm so excited!!! Can't STAND looking at Wizard's empty space. :(

He is gorgeous.....and good for you getting a lovely PK. You wont regret it.....they really do have completely different personalities to the long finned boys :good:

Thanks, Netty!! I'm pretty excited about getting him - looked at giants, but Sinbad's colors really won me over.

In other news, much to my surprise I have about 15 brand new baby Blue Dolphin cichlids in my 75 gal. tank this afternoon - YIKES!!! Didn't see THAT one comin'! :shout:

It's lovely getting new fishies.......such a thrill!!!!!!

So what do these baby blue dolphin cichlids look like....have you got any pics? Would love to see them :D

They look like perfect little cichlids except colorless. Do you know what a Blue Dolphin Cichlid looks like? I can't get pics of them - my camera isn't that good & Momma is being VERY protective. I already fed them, though. Crushed some flake food to almost a powder, soaked it in tank water so it would sink and they ate. That's the beauty of mouthbrooders - at least cichlid mouthbrooders. Once the mother spits them, they are just almost good to go!!!

The thing about this that gets me is that I just purchased the three I have on 12/04/08 and THEY were just babies themselves (all siblings)!! I thought I would have a year or more before any of THIS foolishness started!!!

Rebelious teenagers wanting to shock you

I'd love to see a pic....no idea what they look like  Are they likely to eat any of the babies or will they grow up in the same tank as the adults?

Here is a pic I found of an adult and a juvenile. Mine are juveniles and only about 3 inches long. Adults get to be approx. 8 - 9 inches long.

I don't have any grow out tanks available so they will have to fend for themselves & hope for the best. One good thing - I have a moonlight on that tank & that should help mother guard them overnight. The babies are about 1/4 of an inch long.

Bunch of juvenile delinquents!!!

Here is a nice photograph of an adult. My babies are too LITTLE for this foolishness!!!!

Ooooo they are pretty.....would be very tempted if we had a big enough tank, but the only empty one we have is only 65ltr  Maybe one day.......I'll pop them on my wish list

Yes, they are pretty! Only see them once in a while around here which is why I purchased them when I saw them at my LFS this past December. Never expected this so SOON, though!!!

Too bad you don't live near me - I'd give ya a few!!! :good:

Yeah - I've got a wish list also - about as long as my arm! LOL!!!!

I'll just have to look at pics of them for now lol

They are gorgeous. I've seen some small blue cichlids at one lfs but not sure how big they get. Think I'll have to take another trip down and check them out properly :p

Maybe I could shift Bronze's marine tank out the way

There are lots of blue cichlids. The real name of these is:

Cyrtocara moorii and Haplochromis moorii.

So if you ARE ever able to move Bonzecat's marine tank out of the way - that is what you are looking for. :)

Why the two different names, I don't know. I think one is the old name & the other is the new name - something to do with reclassification, but I don't know which is which.

FWIW, as far as cichlids go they are pretty mellow.

I got a couple of pks, IMO they are very hardy more so than vts, and deffo more than cts which I cant keep due to our hard water....I got my 2 pks really cheap as they were both in with a tank of girls so I got them for that price. I did tell the chap they were males but he didn't mind! I think I am his best customer!
