As the angels are rather big and are used to being alone you may have problems when adding tankmates so they would have to be chosen carefully,

I would add maybe a shoal of Corydoras and a Bn plec for the bottom,
and then possibly a shoal of good sized, quick swimming rainbows that should be too quick to be bothered by the angels

I agree with the idea of some bottom feeders, then possibly a shoal of something that wont be eaten by the angels, you need something that is quick and can outswim the angels. The angels will more than likley be territorial by now after living by themselves for a while, and moving the tank decor around slightly when adding new fish can help to break this up.

Yes, good suggestion by davo. You have a great situation. There should be lots of combos that will create a really nice community tank around these centerpiece angels. Take your time and research it. There are just so many its wide open. The main caveat you will have already heard is that neons/cardinals are a main food source (a few other small tetras also, if they can catch them) for angels in their natural habitat in the Amazon. In your case the small angels are already in the tank without neons, so any that are introduced will be seen even more by them as food, whereas if the neons had already been in there and mature they might have been mostly left alone.

i heard a rumour that, if i removed the angels for maybe 30 mins and rearranged the tank then the angels would feel like newcomers.

is that true

yes it is.

its called time out :good:

although don't assume this will work long term,
time out is usually a short term solution to a problem, but provided you pick the right tankmates for the angels you should be fine.
