Will This Work?

The sand has totally cleard! :hyper:

I realize I forgot to put a black background on the tank, so it looks really bad right now. I also got some fake plants to put in it and hopefully make it look less bare. Getting the breeder net and the box of rocks out would really help, too.

I realize I put too much sand. Its about 2 inches in the back, and slopes to 1 or one half inch in the front. I don't have any cories or snails in the tank right now, but if I add some, how soon do I have to put them in, and would they keep the sand from forming pockets, or is it too deep? I really don't want to take any sand out because I think it looks better if its deeper, but I don't want to endanger my fish.

I have a mystery snail in one of my other tanks- should I put him in it for now? I like to quarantine fish before I put them in the tank, and my quarantine tank already has residents. I could add some cories without quarantine, but of course that has risks.

My avatar is 8 weeks after a sand change from gravel. It was cloudy for about 20 mins, but I washed a few kg at a time under running water for 20 mins each time.

The same bacteria that are in your filter do breed in the gravel, hence trying to transfer it from the gravel to the sand. It really needs to be in the sock so it can just go through the sock in to the sand (it can't get through the plastic and it doesn't swim)

There is always an amount of beneficial bacteria that lives in the substrate, although there is more in the filter due to it being made for colonies of bacteria, therefore the gravel sock is along the lines of keeping as much of the old bacteria as possible.

You don't need to take the fish out from a cloudy tank, as they are used to cloudy water anyway, we like clear water so we can see them, but the amazon is only visible for about 6cm!!!
