i am getting a 29 gallon tank this is one idea i had for stocking it.

PLANTS

4 Cabomba background plants
2 Micro Sword foreground plants
2 Java Fern midground plants

STOCK W/

Harlequin Rasbora x 6- 12"
Golden Harlequin Rasbora x 6 - 12"
False Julii Cory Cat x 1- 2" (should i get 2?)

i am quite new at this so any and all comments and tips are welcomed.. thanks

Seems fine to me, but make sure you cycle the tank first, if your going to ask questions about cycling, please look at the pinned articles on the "Begginer Questions" forum. Also, about the corydoras, they are very sociable, and really do thrive in groups of 4 or more. I really wouldn't recommend you get less than 4, and you also have the space to get 4+, and you don't have any other bottom dwelling species, i'd aim for 6 if I was you. But it's totally your choice.

i should only have room for 4 right. if i follow the inch per gallon rule

Well, it doesn't have to be spot on, and put it this way they aren't exactly messy fish that you have chosen are they? Also, if your filtration is sufficient and you keep up with water changes you should be fine, anyway, two corys isn't going to put much strain on your water quality at all, but it's up to you. Also, you have the right ideas in your head for a newbie to the project, well done for that. I'm not saying don't listen to the inch-per-gallon rule as it's a very good rule, but consider a few things, rasboras and corys don't produce very much waste, and they all prefer to be in the biggest group they can be in. However, 4 will be fine for corys, the only time i've ever kept corys I kept them in a group of 4 and they were fine, but they slowly died off for some reason (wasn't to do with the ammount I had).

question about fishless cycle cause i couldnt find it. do i add everything right off the bat or does the water jsut have to filter by itself for a couple days then add stuff little by little.

will the fish listed above eat brine shrimp? or are they straight flake food and tablet feeders

They are very flexible and will eat whatever you give them (within reason obviously).

BTW, the two types of harlequin rasbora you have listed are the same species - just different colors. I would suggest you add 4 cories and put in a group of 10 rasboras (maybe 5 of each color) and then leave some room for other fish in the future.

If you are new to fish, you'll be thankful for this later as you're guaranteed to find something you realy, realy want and can't quite fit in :p

is a 29 gallon tank a good size to start off on? i dont want a 10 gallon cause lets face it, you cant fit jack in there. i want a planted tank with the above fish, i also want a decent decoration setup. oh and those 3d backgrounds that hide all the wires and so on, are those really expensive? or would putting a regular background on the inside and silicone it in? will that harm the fish or not.

3D Backgrounds will cost you an arm and a leg, they are about £150+ just incase your curious. People tend to paint the back off their tank or they stick a background on, i'd personally go for sticking one on as if you want to change it in the future, it won't be as much hassle as scraping the paint off. I suppose you could silicone it inside if you use aquarium sealant, and give it about 3 or so days to dry, but if I was you i'd put it on the back just to be a bit on the safe side.

neal. have you ever been to amwell aquatics? its in soham. i was just curious if you like their business and customer service.

nevermind your way up north. how is it up there anyway?

how many tall background plants is a good number to have in this size tank. i know i can hurt the whole aquarium if i have to many so i dont want to over do it.

in a book i got. actually i read it wrong. the book does say to have the light come on and off like a sunrise sunset type thing. so does that mean that i shouldnt have the light on at night?
