im starting or planning to start another nano system, a 60 litre 60cm long. i know everything i need to except for lighting arrangements.

ive thought of many ways in which i can light the system affordably. i was going to buy a arcadia overtank luminare, until they discontinued it and now the new one costs around £250.

so ive been surfing the net for new ways and found these...

the only feasible option i have come acrossed is this controller unit, its a T5 24watt double light unit, so all together 48watts of light. they are £58 for the twin unit or £48 for the single, i thought of buying a twin controller but figured one wouldnt be enough (would it?) so i thought seeing as the twin unit is only £10 more i may aswell get 2 twins (4 tubes in total for around £116 at 96 watts) than a twin and a single (3 tubes in total for about £106 at 72watts) ive heard that for a few SPS corals i will need 1 watt per litre so 72 watts sounds about right. but seeing as its £10 for an extra 10 watts should i go for 96 watts? or is that taking the ####?

this will be my second nano, ive got the crappy biorb at the moment :( and i cant have any corals ( and i would love some).

im no expert on lighting but will these tubes be ok with these ballasts/controllers?

All the links to Charterhouse Aquatics seem to be taking me to their homepage, so I can't see what you are looking at

£116 for 2 T5 Twin starters is extortionate, when you can get a light unit with 4 T5 lamps included for like £50.... Look at EQJ-Trading on Ebay, bidding on the aformentioned 4 T5 lighting unit on a Saturday night will typically allow you to pick one such unit up for £50 delivered :good: They are bomb-proof packaged and are delivered quickly IME, though a colegue of mine has had some issues with them recently

SkiFletch in another post has said that 4 individually reflected T5 lamps can be fine for most SPS corals, so with some reflectors, you can get a unit that will do the job admirably :good: As standard, one reflector does all  That is the only draw-back with these units that I have found so far...

All the best

Agreed, you'll have best luck on a short tank like that with a 4xT5 setup with each individual lamp having its own reflector. Any fixture with a single reflector for 4 lamps will have significantly less light down on the corals and it'd be a 50/50 shot if the really high-light SPS would do well in a tank like that.
