Yes the panels are stuck togher by silicone.

Home depot here in the states has the proper aquarium sealant for around $3. Alot cheaper than the stuff you buy at the LFS. I can't remember the exact name, but it says safe for aquarium use on the tube IIRC.

Should I silicone a piece accross, or buy a replacement frame and try to take the old one off. http

You can get 100% silicone at the hardware store. It will be located with the caulk and stuff.

i'd take off that frame and install a new one for that price
that way you'll be able to fit a proper cover on there. covers for wide tanks are usually too small covers
it will most likely look better then a DIY job if you've never done it too.

just rip the top off, remove any sillicone with a sharp blade and put aquarium sealant inside the new cover and put some weight on top of it for 24 hours. that'll stay well in its place
