I have a 55 gallon tank and I'm interested in getting some African Cichlids. I want some really colorful one, anyone have any other suggestions other than these? Also which of these fish can be housed together, which can't? Also how many can i get for my 55 gallon? (wide).

LAMP LELEUPI (orange)

LAMP TRETOCEPHALUS (blue)

LAMP SEXFASCIATUS "GOLD"

REG ELECTRIC BLUE HAP

REG HAP LIVINGSTONI

REG BICOLOR PEACOCK

REG T. MOORII GREEN TERROR

REG T. MOORII KAISER II

REG TROPHEUS DUBOISI

Thanks!

Any of the lamps are ok together, or go for a mixture of haps. The duboisi and moorii can be mega aggressive even to each other. In a 55g I'd go for the lamps, they're pretty and more peaceful. Mmmm I can see it now, yellows and blues oooh lovely.
Better to overstock with cichlids to dilute aggression so go for slightly more than 1 inch of fish per gallon of water and use extra filtration, ie: internal plus external filters. Good luck.

great thanks for your reply!

Ok what about this combo of 4... If all 4 jive, how many of each should i get if i just stick with these 4? Also are there bottom feeders that could be in the same tank as these guys

Can you mix any Tanganyika and Malawi at all? Is it basically a general rule that any Malawi/Tanganyika will go with their own kind?

oh wow! or this electric yellow lab

Would be a very nice mbuna tank. Peacocks don't thrive very well in a crowded mbuna tank, though you can try it. Demasoni would be fine singly, but are very, very nasty toward each other, and best reserved for keeping in high numbers.

Tanganyikan and Malawi fish have very different behaviors, and generally don't mix well. Some Tangs, however, will do fine with Malawis when kept singly because you won't have to deal with breeding behavior - A Leleupi would probably do ok. My personal opinion though is to play it safe and not to mix the lakes.

Green Terror doesn't belong in any of these setups - it's an aggressive new world that would want the tank to itself. Tropheus are aggressive, very particular about water conditions and diet - they're best for species tanks.
