I want to put snails in my thirty gallon (I saw this pearl one on aquabid, thought it looked cool) but so far the only snails I've had in it were little ones that fell out of my java moss, and they all died. I wasn't sure if my fish were eating them, or if I don't have enough for them to eat. I have a lot of driftwood but I don't think I really have any algae for them, unless it's from the tablets I give my cories. I feel silly because I've never had this problem before in my life, it was always a matter of getting rid of snails instead of trying to keep them . So should I try, or just forget about it for now?

umm, I imagine the 30 gallon is heated, and when I bought my two snails recently my LFS guy said they need coldwater (mine are at room temperature, he recommended between 60 and 70 degrees farenheidt). so I dunno if they can go in there?

but don't take me too seriously, I'm regurgitating from my LFS dude, and I'm a newbie with snails! good luck with them and hope this helps somewhat. :/

Unless you have high amounts of salt or copper in your tank a snail sould live.

Also cories are protien eaters not algae eaters. But snails will eat whatever food is left over from the fish.

The tablets I give the cories are made for cories, but they're green, and I'm so used to green fishfood being algae that I mixed them up  I'm such a dork sometimes. Hm, I do have those algae tablets (real ones) left over... Now to find a place with cool snails....

Thanks for the help!

Even algae tablets will contain amounts of protein and other required minerals, just not as much as carnivorous pellets and tablets would. Strangely enough, my Cories prefer the algae tablets to the carnivore ones most of the time.
