I am told these are easy to keep! Do they breed easily? I have seen ? froobosia in the lfs and also am looking at a the Rio triangle 350.
How many of these do I start with or mix with other fish.

They are large but do either barbs or Neons survive with them ? I have a neon in another tank that I would like to keep and add others too it.

Barbs and a Gouramis I would also like to keep but sorta think my mate will have the barbs if they don't get on with the neon.

The other options to keep the neon where it is but not get anymore hes been with platy's this last year or so which I do not want to continue as I am past the maternity ward stage.

You need to up your Neon's to at least 5, they are a schooling fish and are happiest in a school of at least 5.

My neon is at least four years old and the end of the bunch he did not fit into my large tank when my Bala's clown loaches got too big so he went into the middle tank when I bought Rio 400 which was great but when the Neon got something when I added new fish from the lfs a few died. I gave middle tank away as I spent most of my time on the Rio and so the few fish left are in a very small tank and until they die I am not replacing any as I feel it would be ignorant overstocking the little tank.

I am now having to replace the RIO and have two plans :
Get a huge tank and consider keeping Bala and a Gibicept and Clown loaches until they either get again too big or
Get a reasonable tank and replace the fish which is where I was told Clichids and Discus would be good, hence above thread.

If the Neon can be in with the new fish in the new tank then I'll be happy to as I said have twenty as they are 1" and do not need as much space but as you can read I did get wrong fish before and am now facing the choice of how to react to the consequences.

I would like all the fish in one tank as I would like the small tank for a hospital tank only. It was that and also a breeding tank at one stage.

I have mates if a fish is really distressed but I have had a good time since my Rio until now so I want to be informed and sure of the next step.

It really depends on what kind of cichlids you want to keep, there are thousands of species in both the New World (Central & South America) and Old World (Africa), they have a wide range of sizes, temperaments, and dietary/water needs.

Here are a couple of places you could start reading to narrow it down a little.

Good place to look for stocking levels
