Pictus grow quite large, so would they be a smart choice for a African Cichlid community?

On another note, would Pictus Catfish survive in a ph over 8 as well as hard water?

They'd probably be fine as far as temperament goes, as they're very quick and able to defend themselves, but they won't fare well in the hard water and high pH.

Look into catfish of the synodontis species instead.

Alright, thanks for the heads up!

Which of the Syndontis Catfish species would you recommend?

Some more common Synodontis species from the Rift valley lakes...

lucipinnis
petricola
multipunctata
grandiops

All the above are quite social catfish, so adding 5 or 6 minimum would be best, plus increase their confidence to be out and about.
