I'd like to put a tank into the theatre room of our house. I'm wondering if the loud noise/vibrations will affect the fish? Normal T.V is not loud, but during a movie, music, explosions, etc. (there's a woofer hooked up) Will this be heard and felt inside the tank? I often see large saltwater tanks set up inside bars and restaurants where there's loud dance music, so I'm wondering? I don't want to stress or hurt the fish. Any opinions greatly appreciated please.

I used to be in a metal band years ago. The drummer & guitarist were brothers, we practiced at their house. The drummer also bred oscars. The fish were fine with it, the neighbors weren't.

I'm glad you bought this up Barbie, as since setting up my 70g i havn't hooked up my surround sound (subwoofer etc) through fear of frighterning my fish.

I wonder if anyone else has experience when dealing with smaller fish (tetra/barbs) as I would have thought these would be more effected then larger oscars.

i have a sub in my room and about 10 letters from my neighbour tellin me to turn it down (im not as bad as that makes me sound lol, he really is jus an arse).

all my fish have been fine and i have tetras to oscars to malawi cichlids.

It'll be fine, I'd say. I have a betta right in front of one of my comp speakers and he doesn't seem to notice it whatsoever. Noise is greatly diminished when passing from the air through the glass/acrylic of your tank and into the water

I agree, but i would just start pumping hard base through the room right off :D Start them off at some moderate sounds and slowly increase it and I think it would better off for the fish. A sudden massive vibration to their enviroment to me would be a bit a startle. I Know it would be if i just all the sudden felt some massive vibrations in my house :fun:

My guppy tank is on a desk with some serious surround sound speakers used for heavy gaming (not by me!) and they seem completely unbothered by it. Though it wouldn't be my preference, but as it's not my desk but need the space to put them, I have little say in the matter.

I have my computer speakers directly infront and to one side of each of my fishtanks and the fish have never been bothered at all, they jump when I put something down on the desk tho, so I'm always as light fingered as possible! The fish dont care, but my snake usually comes to the front of his viv when music is on to see what the hell it's all about! lol :p

put a tank on a table, bang on the table, fish poo enough bricks to bulid a small underwater estate..... u work it out ;)
Hi,

Thanks :good:

Yeah well when u bang a table the vibrations pass directly up into the tank through the glass and it disturbs the water thats why the fish jump.. well i think am no expert :D music wouldnt do this in theory unless uv got a huge bass amp... again i think dont quote me sp00ks knows more bout fish than meeeee

Oscar fry are about as small as any other fry, so the size thing really doesn't matter. Guitarist had 100w Marshall head through a pair of 4x12 bottoms. 300 w Randall bass head through a 4x15 bottom, it used to fry a speaker every few months. Double bass drum set.

They had to go through the house at one point, angle cabinets & shelfs back slightly to keep things from rattling off. :)

I have a home theatre system which I play LOUD :X and it doesn't bother my fish in the slightest...

Although, for some reason, my Dyson vacuum cleaner drives them nuts!

yeah mine aren't bothered by the tv or music, but hate the dyson, well that's my excuse for not hoovering up enough anyway
