I found out today my mollie had babies, now i've moved them to a smaller tank, but I don't have a heater, would it be possible to put it in the warmest room in my house and they could survive, or put them in the community tank with the risk of being eaten and maybe even poisoned by ammonia, it's my first time with fry, but I personaly think I should keep it in the small tank, and maybe buy a cheap heater in the next few days, I have about 30 fry and want them to live. Please post back what you think I should do!

Thanks in advance,
Neal

You have moved them, right what was the temp of the tank they was in as you don't want the temp droping to fast with not having a heater, what is the temp now to the tank they came from.

The tank they came from was 23-24oC (It was dropped down a few degrees for my loach). At the minute the new tank seems to be room temperature (finger dip).
Thanks,
Neal

As long as the temp didn't drop to fast as they can go into shock, causing parasites and columnaris to swim bladder problems.

I used a jug of tank water and netted them into the jug one at a time, and I filled the new tank with luke warm water. Do I need a filter? The only spare one I have is being used by my brother in his guppy fry tank, and I have an UGF in my 4G with 2 black moores (soon to be rehoming), do I need to cut a peice of the flossy stuff from the UGF and float that in my tank or put it under the gravel or anything? Or can they survive without it?
I can put a leapord danio or two in if that helps (can't see why it would but y'know!).
Thanks for the help Wilder, your a very helpful person as you have helped me with just about everything on this forum! =)

Just water changes for now, i will find you a filter sponge there not expensive it just a small sponge betta users use, it will be ideal for your small tank.

Thanks mr Wilder, I vote you for forum moderator tbh! =P I have a java fern, some natural ferns and some floating plants that goldfish like to eat atm. I don't know if that will help them but that should increase the oxygen shouldn't it? I have just noticed one of the fry without a tail (not sure if it was attacked in main tank or is a runt), i'm glad I moved them to a seperate tank now. I seen 10 and would of expected 10, not 30!
Thanks,
Neal

Do you think theres a point, because it won't be long until my brothers guppys are rehomed and I get my HOB filter. I was just thinking of the P+P costs and my mam would moan at me like she always does 'you don't need another filter you have 3', yes but there all being used dumbo! =P I was talking about buying a heater and filter for my fry tank earlier and saying I could breed mollies every month or so and she says 'don't get caried away', she doesn't take fishkeeping seriously, nor does she take me seriously! I can keep on top of daily water changes for now, it shouldn't be a problem as I just spend the day on my computer like a nerd.
Thanks,
Neal

Edit - I know, I just looked in your profile and realised sorry! I was going to edit my last post until I realised you had posted already! Sorry MRS Wilder! =)

Yes you can wait to get the filter back but you will have to keep up with daily water changes, as fry need feeding quite alot and it soon messes the water up, but i would get the heater fast as temp going up and down is not good for the fish.
Good luck, you do have test kits for ammonia and nitrite as you will have to keep an eye on those stats.

I'm afraid I don't have test kits, but i'm going to get one soon. How early do I need to feed them and how much % water change? Just 25?
Thanks,
Neal

That why you need a test kit in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, as it tells you how much water to remove, couldn't say other wise, sorry.

Thanks for all the help Wilder, I have now moved them into a jug now, with tank water + floating plants in, it's hanging on my tank and in the water. I am going to do daily water changes, a couple have died overnight because I didn't feed them, my fault but I thought they had egg sacs (my first time raising fry).
Thanks,
Neal

No they don't have sacs as they are livebearers, baby brine strimp and crushed flakes for now, good luck.
