Hi
My Guppy fry are 3-4 weeks old now and I have learned alot from this forum but one thing I am worried about is if my fry breed with each other. I am not concerned for space but am wondering if it is ok for this to happen?
I now know that the females wont grow as large if they breed from a young age but what about breeding with their brothers?

Cheers, Lee

no not for another few months they have to mature like us people ;)

So there is no problem with them breeding with each other and is his quite normal ?
Sorry to sound thick I am just quite amazed

Cheers

So how do you get a good strong breed of guppy. Do you breed them back to their parents? Or introduce the females to new males each time?

Get an unrelated good strong pair - which is quite hard these days because of inbreeding. You could get a new male for all the females and seperate the females brothers into a serperate tank athough it is hard to sex until they are old enough.

Think I best be reading up on strains - Can you not just start out with a poor bugger from a fish shop and make a strong breed from them ?

Guppies can breed as early as five weeks old

they can breed together but the chances of them being deformed are quite high

The chances of bearing deformed Guppies through inter-breeding (incestual) are no greater than with completely different Guppy families breeding together.

Inter-bred Guppies are no less healthy than other Guppies.
