Hi,

I am thinking of removing my Red Tail Shark and Clown Loaches as the shark is picking on my sucker loach too much, and the clowns as lots of people keep telling me will get far to big for my tank. Will LFS take them, do they pay? I am tinking of replacing them with less aggressive fish and some suggestions would be good?

Many Thanks

They will probably take them, but i doubt they will pay.

It's worth giving your lfs a ring and asking them if they can take them off you. Some stores will give you a credit note or let you exchange them, others will just rehome them.

Returns policy is something I always ask a LFS. Some shops will only take em if you can provide a water sample that they are happy with to prove they are kept healthy. Lots won't bother with this. I don't think any will give you money for them but that's not the point in your case I think. Give them a ring before you net / bag the fish to find out who will have em. You could also try the Buy/Sell/Swap forum - just an idea.

In my experience, most LFS's will take fish. Why wouldn't they, its free stock for them.

However, they seem to have tactics in this area. I find that they will make out that they don't want them, just in case you want some money. Only when you offer them for free will they agree to take them, and then they make out like they are doing you the favour. :dunno:

BTT

Thanks all, will contact my LFS an see what they say, will see if they would give me some fish in exchange? will also try the swap forum as suggested above.

Mine gives me store credit for them....... I just took in 2 dozen endlers. They give me 1/3 of the retail sale. Though they told me to call ahead next time, to make sure they had room for 2 dozen fish . I doubt I ever will, considering I visit a couple different stores, if one doesn't take them all another one will.

If it's a true fish store, they should take them but a chain like Petsmart or Walmart won't as they have no place to quarantine them to make sure they are safe to put in their tank.

When I had Swordtails and Guppies, the LFS always took them in exchange for plants or food; I never had to buy either for the two years I had them.
