Afternoon,

I've got a large resin 'rock' in the center of my tank (see vid in my sig) and I'm thinking about attaching java moss around it to bring it to life.

I'm very new to the hobby so have no experience with moss, but I've read several guides on how to create moss walls and floors and they seem pretty straight-forward.

If I can attach threads of moss by tying it down with cotton will the moss eventually take hold on the 'rock'? It does have a relatively rough surface so I'm hoping it will be able to anchor itself. Or have I got completely no chance of this working?

appreciate your feedback.

Yeah, it's easily possible.

Get the small bits of moss, spread them evenly across the rock and then wrap cotton around it loads so that it's all secure. It will look terrible to begin with but it will soon thicken out.

It will only sticik to a surface that has something to grip onto. Ie if your rock has lots of jagged edges and pits it'll be fine. If the surface is smooth and shiny it will not stick, you will need to key it up first.

also i found that it didn't grow much for a few weeks, but now it grows like weeds in a garden. lol

It's as rough as a morning after 10 pints of Stella, so it should work fine.

Cheers!

Does the roughness of the object you're attaching stuff to apply to Java fern too (sorry for the hi-jack)?
