hi, this is just a general tank question. if anyone could help out, it would be much appreciated :)

here's my tank as of right now:

10 gallon
small smooth gravel substrate
live java fern
live java moss
fake log decoration and another fake wood decoration/cave with fake plants
its filtered and heated (usually always around 78-79 F) with a thermometer

current inhabitants:

3 amano shrimp
6 glowlight tetra
2 Corydoras leucomelas
1 panda corydora

i would like to maybe add 3 neon tetras. i originally went to the fish store to get neons, but the workers said that the stock they had now were weak and died easily, so i got the glowlights instead. i like them, but i would like to add 3 neons to add a little more color to my tank. is this a good idea? or will i be over stocking it?
thanks :)

im not good at working out stocking etc...but i dont think adding three neons would be a problem. Just make sure someone else on here agrees though.

go with the rule of thumb on this one. u would want a gallon of water per inch of lenght your fish are. so you might want to upgrade to a 20 gallon tank just to be safe.

If you're going by the 1 inch of fish per gallon of water theory, it would appear that you're overstocked already. Let's see what the real experts say. This is where we find the holes in the theories. ;)

I would not add any more fish to that 10gallon as it seems pretty full already. And the neons would like a group of 5 at least of their own, so they can group together. You could either upgrade your tank to a bigger size for more fish, or get another tank for different fish.

Good Luck with your decision!

And although they're small, Neons are very active fish and need a lot of swimming room. Neons prefer to be in groups of at least 5-6, anyway.
