Hey,
My teacher has 2 convicts and some of their fry in a 20g tank at school. Well for the past month, the male has gotten HUGE. His scales arent raised, he dosent look like he's suffering, he is still eating and taking care of the fry. He is only 2-3 inches long, but he stomach is aobut that deep. Im worried about him. I thought, maybe it's constipation, as i havent really seen him poop, so we fed him pea's for several days, but nothing has happend. He is so big that his "pectoral"? fins are turning pinkish where they join with the belly. I cant even fathom what this could be! Any help? I dont want to see him die!

I would try a bacterial med if you can issolate the sick fish.

If the fish isn;t going to the toilet and tryed the peas it could be organ failure.

if it was organ failure the fish would stop eating and die within a few days.

I don't know my fish fancy goldifsh didn't go the toilet for weeks till he died.

Frozen brine shrimp sprinkled with just a little epsom salt will take care of any constipation issues. If this doesn't clear it up, it is bacterial.

Thanks Tolak. I will try it. If it dosent work, should i recommend Maracyrn? I have no idea if it is a grma negative or posotive infection, if it isnt constopation. He is HUGE. It's like a baloon streched beyond it's limits.

Epson salt baths help to draw the fluids out.
You need maracyn two.

Thamks Wilder, but i think it's too late! I did bring a baggy to school w/ brine shrimp, and epsom slat in it. I feed it to them, and he did eat ti. But i did notice one thing. His stomach is literally comming out of him! It's see though pink. Image blowing a bubble with Pink gum, thats what it looks like. I would think he is in pain, but he dosnet appear to be in any, just like every other convict. I kind felt badd after feeding him that and noticing that he is already fat enough!!!!! I wont have school till tuesdayh, as we have Kashimere Polaski Day(spelling?) and we get monday off. I doubt he will be alive when i come back. I ma thinking that the fact my teacher dosent do gravel vacum's is comming back to haunt him! Would that be the reason he got sick? Al my teacher does is add water.

Bless him he does sound bad.
Yes not doing the gravel will cause illness.
You need to do gravel vac to get rid of the waste, and also bad pockets of bacteria can thrive causing bad bacteria in the tank.
What does the tank water smell like?

It klinda stinks. People make remarks( i do too) abotu how bad the room smells like. But take into account the fact there is a green house in there, adn 3 55g bucket's, 1 full of Tilapia( he's going to fillet them this spring), 1 full of Bio Media, and One full of water( w/ nothing in it at the moment). They are all connected. I graveld the tnak once, adna that was when i rid the tnak of 2 mis treated Yellow Labs. I gave him Convicts as i was sure he wouldnt be able to kill them, or harm them. Well, you never know! I have given him food adn everytihng to feed them. He also has 2 platy's and 2 mollies in another 20g, but they are thriving. I really dont think he'll be alive on tuesday.

If the tanks smells like rotten eggs or sulphur its a sign of bad bacteria in the tank.

It smells like rotten eggs sometimes. If there were bad bacteria in there, how could the femlae convic tna dfry thrive?

She needs to do some gravel vacs and some fresh water changes.

Well, i'll try to persuade him. The fish isnt dead yet, but his bodyu cavity bascially borke open and his stomach is hanging out. The poor fish cant barely move. I feel soo bad for him! I would put him out of his misery, but i dont realy know how to say " im going to kill your fish as it's sick beyond repair".

The fish must be in pain I would do it as quickly as possible, so sad bless him.
