Will Female German Blue Rams Fight?

I have a trio of German Blue Rams, which I got yesterday morning.

Even after having read gallons of info on sexing them, I still can't. I'm figuring they're just too young yet.

Issue is that the bigger two are fighting (lip locking), I'm fairly confident that the bigger one is a female. It appears to have blue spots in the black blotch and a sort of pinkish undercarriage, but it does have yellow shoulders, so I'm really not sure.

Hence my question, do females fight. If they don't then it's likely that the middle size ram is a male then.

The smallest ram has no colours yet, so I'll just have to wait and see.

I would personally think the bigger one is the male. If it has nicer and brighter colouring than the others, then its the male. They are more striking looking.

It could also possibly be 2 males fighting over the one female. If so, you might have to do something about it.

What did the LFS say about sexing?

Bah! LFS knows nothing what-so-ever about fish!

I actually ordered a pair last week, I rang on Friday to make sure they were in before I made the trek to Horsham to get them. Conversation goes like this:
"Hi Tony, it's Jo', were you able to get the pair of Rams I ordered?",
"Oh Jo', I got 5 Wednesday but one of the staff sold 4 of them yesterday"
Me: "So you don't have my pair then?"
Him: "I've still got 3 in the tank tho"
Me:*sighs* "Ok, I'll be there tomorrow and BTW the replacement Gourami you gave me has the same viral tumour that the other one had, I think your Supplier has a problem"
Him: "Oh really, what time will you be in tomorrow?".................................

So I didn't get the pair I ordered, he gave me the 3 he had because of the first Gourami dying and because the 2nd one is going to within the next couple of weeks.

So I have no idea what sex they are! Or how old they are, so I can't go on size. The smallest one has no colours at all yet.

Hi

Female rams do fight.Male and female will not fight, the male will only chace her off.

If you have 2 pairs of Rams and they cross into each others terotories you will see the males will fight and the 2 females will fight.

Male Rams have a pointed dorsal fin to the front.Log black fin.Females have pink belly. It works great if you sex them that way.

Mine have bred more than once.

My male ram chased my female and terrorised her to death.

It was really sad to see.

I thought it was all about wanting to spawn, but it got a bit beyond that.

Stang, that's one of the sites I visited in my sexing search, a pretty good site too!

Glad it helped! I bookmarked it as good to use for reference when I need it.

Hey Rhiannon you live near my in-laws, they're in Chum Creek!

I don't know what to do with the Ram's, I'll leave them for a while and watch them and decide what to do then.
