hi, just wondering if dwarf hairgrass will grow well without co2 and with only 1.25 wpg of light. i will dose tpn + daily and use some sort of fert tabs. unfortunately only 6mm gravel as substrate.

cheers

as helpful as google can be, imagine how many american results there are to the UK

99% of americans think you need 2+WPG to grow anything, this is false, you can grow anything with 2 tubes the length of the tank

i got a carpet of dwarf hairgrass growing well in a 60 litre with no co2, just liquid ferts, but i had caribsea eco-complete substrate, (which i will never use again as its crap) i think if you can get it rooted in the gravel it should do fine. obviously it will do better with a little more light and co2, but any plant would!
good luck, its a nice plant once it gets going!

On what size tank?

bit of a sweeping statement there!!!

where did you get the data that 99% of americans believe this??

so you are also saying, if the tank was deep with 2 x t12 tubes or even 2 x t8 and no co2 addition you can grow anything............

i was under the impression dwarf hairgrass love co2 and light, so you could give it a go in 1.25wpg, but make sure you have some type of liquid fert such as easycarbo

hi, thanks for the replies, the tank is 4 ft 216 litres and 45cm high.

i think i'll give it a go.

you sure it's ok?

a few mixed answers

99% was an exaggeration to get a point across. (a bit like you putting 3 exclamation marks)
obviously 2*T8's would need ferts and atleast liquid carbon with Injected CO2 being preferable

And the point was what? Americans dont know how to keep a planted tank? Not sure i understand!

Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign of a diseased mind!!! According to mr prattchet anyway, who am i to argue?

Hmmm does diana walstad not recommend 2wpg for her natural style planted tanks. Preferably in sunlight too? With no extra co2 supplementation? (apart from what fish and substrate provide)

Again the sweeping statements!
Why would 2 x t8 mean that you'd NEED co2?
does the depth of the tank not come into it?
Light duration?
The height of the lights about the tank?
Whether or not floating or emergent plants are present?

did i say americans dont know how to keep a planted tank? surely those words were presumptuous,
it doesnt necessarily mean you would need CO2, but i said it would be preferable, whereas a liquid carbon supplement ISNT CO2, so therefore i never said it is needed.
how tall is the average 125? i can tell you that...at maximum 50cm from lights to substrate, so wouldnt really make a difference IME.
duration, yes a factor, yet i didnt mention anything about it so how a sweeping statement could come from that im not really sure.
same as above
