I've been thinking about getting a clown loach for my planted tank. The only thing I have in it currently is 5 neon tetras, 3 ghost shrimp, dwarf hairgrass and some driftwood.

They will dig and snuffle your substrate which will uproot your plants. As ZSP says, unless you have a 5-6ft tank then they aren't adviseable habitants.

Depends on the size of your tank but generally if you like Clown Loaches but your tank is a little smaller then get Zebra Loach or Peppered Loach as they don't grow so big. As with all loaches they do like to be in groups. It would be unfair to have just one loach, of any type.
