I'm wondering if my mollies breed in my tank, any of the following would eat the fry? If not I can put them in breeding trap, (I only have a 2.5G spare and I don't have a spare heater).

Mollies of course,
Neons,
Albino corys,
Danios,
Very Placid Gourami like fish.

Thanks,
Neal

yeah i know the molliies will for sure cause a minute after my molly gave birth she started trying to eat the babies lol

I agree. Mollies definately eat their own babies. Maybe the gourami would -- but that's just a guess; I've never own one so I can't say for sure.

I have a pair of mollies, they have had fry and after the first initial chasing which lasted all but of a day they are all swimming about happily doing there thing and not being bothered by the adults at all. Occasionally they just give a quick chase and thats that , not like when fish are really going to eat them , you know , like they keep chasing all over the place untill they finally get them. (does that make sense.) :look:

maybe i am just lucky . Also they are in a big tank 213litre and they are the only fish in there at the mo so they do have a lot of space.

:D

Mollies of course,- definately will eat their young

Neons,- i doubt even the newest born fry will fit in their mouths, besides they eat "suspended" food (in mid layer of tank just being "there) and really wouldn't hunt

Albino corys,- i always wondered thsi myself. like if the fry were in the substrate. but i doubt that they will bother it. i do know that plecos will as they can fit them in their mouths easier and just kind of suck them up.

Danios,- same as neons

Very Placid Gourami like fish,- they will eat ANYTHING the ycan fit in their mouths so this would be death

plecos eat them?! heh, poor lil guys don't stand a chance in the gravel then.

i don't know about everyone, but mine actually chased them as they spat across the top of the sand and when the pleco caught up... well there was no more fry. so maybe it is just mine, so don't quote me on that ok

I have a really thick planted area (java fern, 4 natural ferns and 3 silk plants) I wonder if they could survive in that, theres also an ornament cave and a cave/bridge made out of 2 rocks in a /| formation. I might just try it and if they die, it was my first time and I was just experimenting, if they seem to get eaten I can move them to another tank but will have to buy/borrow a heater.

Get some Java Moss and you could save about 1/2 of them. Mollie fry get big enough fairly quickly.

Just make sure they have MANY hiding places in the tank. I even like to use the bushiest kind of fake plant from the store, they work awesome :D
