I joined this forum to get answers about Bettafix, and I was asked to give info regarding pH, nitrates and such. I don't have the money to afford these testing kits! I figured since my finances are so bad I have to worry about feeding MYSELF, I shouldn't be keeping a betta. Problem is, he's got bad tail rot and this might make it hard to find someone willing to take him in.

Often shops will test water for free, or for a minimal charge.

Not sure depends on the store, possibly any friends with fish to donate some medications? or putting him up for adoption to a fish rescue site?

I can never understand why people go into keeping fish without first doing some research on keeping them and what they will need.

I very much doubt that a fish shop would take a poorly fish as they simply dont have the space to keep sick fish isolated. You say you cant afford a liquid test kit - I know they seem expensive but they last for over a year!

His problems are from you keeping him in toxic water which is uncycled. Buy some meds and keep changing the water as good water quality will help heal him - you owe him that much. :/

You could put your betta in the classified section, if someone lives close they may take him off your hands
