This topic may seem useless, but I just need to tell someone! Yesturday I took my dogs out in the backyard and I looked at the lake and noticed all the fish in it (there is a very shallow shelf thats about 8 or 9 feet out from shore). I saw guppies and some long fish and further out I saw peacock fish. But then I noticed something. Three of four feet from shore was a 2-3 inch fish that was kind of skinny with amazing colors. The tail was round with some shiny blue and red stripes and it was just a colorful fish in a weird shiny way. I figured it was a killifish and I was so excited, maybe I would catch it, but then I didnt want to mess with the environment.
The next day I saw the same type of fish and looked closey. It swam next to a female and then all of a sudden, a huge sailfin erected straight up. I stood in awe realizing that it's a sailfin molly, not a killifish. I live in Florida, so it makes sense, as I found out they are native here. I wanted one so bad, but I still dont want to mess with the environment. Maybe one day I will catch one, take some pics, release it, and post the pics. Unfortunately I don't think I can get one as nice as the one I saw. Most of the others I saw were either dull females or not as impressive males.

Wow I never knew they had Mollies in FLorida. M y lfs told me they only lived in the shores of Argentina.

You need to get a better source of information Petraitis. P. vellifera are native to the Gulf of Mexico area which includes Florida, Texas and the east coast of much of Mexico. They are not found as far south as Argentina but the LFS may get their supply from their instead of getting them from fish farms in Florida or Malaysia.

Oh I know my stupid lfs told me that. Sometimes I just don't even listen to them! they tell me all the wrong info!
