I would like to have another few fish in my tank. Not sure if it's safer to go for F1's rather than wild caught. What if they haven't been quarantined properly? Or does it really matter.

In my opinion, if you have a choice about it, do not purchase wild caught fish.
Hey, if enough people do this, maybe fish won't be caught from the wild any more. :)

So what happens when the captive bred fish have become so inbred and hybridized that no ones really sure what species they have any more and because of health problems fish only live a few months instead of years?

Without wild caught fish being introduced to the captive gene pool the fish keeping hobby would collapse, serious hobbiests want pure bred stock and would soon close up their tanks if only genetic mutations and hybrids were available, the cash that casual hobbiests spend wont support the fish stores and all but the larger chains would shut down.
Is that really something you want?
People should be really carefull with suggesting that fish should not be taken from the wild, there are enough animal rights campaigners causing damage without giving them further ammunition.
Without wild caught fish there would be a extreemly poor selection of fish to keep, thats if there was a fish keeping hobby at all.

I'm with CFC on this one.
Being a member of the British Killifish Assoc. the American Killifish Assoc & the Scandinavian Killifish Assoc.
We need new blood so to speak to enhance the gene pool, so as not to have deformatives and weakness in our breeding stock. Wild caught and F1's imports are necessary for this purpose.

A really good point but I'm not after stock for breeding as such. Just hope to perhaps get better specimens. So then if one is going for Wild Caught how long in quarrantine would you expect the fish to have been kept before being offered for sale?
