Hey! I did a special request oat my lfs today for some wild caught krib's. The fish manager said that there is a good chance that there will be some there on saturday( if their supplier(s) have any). I am assuming that i will get them. I am getting( i hope) 1 male and 1 female wild caught kribensis. I am also going to buy a Black Water Extract container when i get them. I was wondering if any of you guy's/ girls had any experience on keeping them? Ohhh, they are going in a 20g with alot of baby( 1/4) inch Convict's. Thanks In Advance.

mine are wild caught and are proven to be hard to breed

Nice. Are those Taeniatus? Im just getting Pelvachromis Pulcher, unless they made a mistake and give me something else. I took all the babies( the ones that i could catch) out of the 20, took to coconut halves and brooke a whole on the side so the female can lay/hide in them. I also took 2 pieces of slate and made a cave, and i also put three pieces of PVC pipe in there. Also, 1 platsic plant. It is all set. Anyone else?

We'll, i havent heard from my lfs yet, but they should come in on friday. I will pick them up on staurday. If not, im getting 2 tank raised males+females on saturday, though i perfer wild ones!

Why are you so keen to have fish snatched from there natural habitat? In the marine section this sort of thing would be greatly frowned apon, seems to be fashionable in FW though.

As far as i know, Kribensis are not endangerd at all, and i will take great care of them! I already have around 7 "caves": 2 coconut Shell's, 4 pieces of pvc pipe( rangeing in sizes, and a slate cave, and im working on adding more. I know that most saltwater fish are endangerd, so it would definatley be frowned upon.

Personal prefferance I suppose, good luck either way.

Just so you know some of your fish are probably wild caught. Youd be suprised how many fish are wild caught as it is cheaper than setting up a large breeding farm, just send a team of people out during the peak of the season and snatch em up. SO before you judge, can you be 100 percent sure all of your fish are not wild caught?

Most easy to find fish arent wild caught, but harder to find ones are. But, could you prove they are wild caught?

Can you prove it that they arent? Im not trying to prove anything as I dont have a big problem with it, as SJ2K seemed too. Burden of proof isnt on me, its on him.

Just saying.
Saying what....you really have no idea when you walk into a fish store if the fish were wild caught (obviously this doesnt apply to fish like guppies and fancy bettas, they obviously were not) unless you somehow know exactly who bred them. My whole point to SJ2K was you cant really judge as he very well could have wild caught fish too.

I was sayting that you kinda" pounced" on him about wild-caught fish. I know where he is commming from, becasue if you remove 2 many fish, there could be hell to pay( ecosystem wise). You can almost always tell( in freshwater) if sometinhg is wild caught here is how:
Color( probably more drab, depends on the kind of fish)
Feeding( i always ask them to feed, adn if there is a healthy looking fish, and it dosent eat( or they) and it's color is drab, then it is prob wild-caught)
If i wonder about the fish, i can ask if it is wild caught.

Never said I wasnt for conservation either. I disagree that you can "almost always" tell if the fish is wild caught.

Color-Like you said completely depends on the fish (neon tetras come to mind, wild caught wouldnt look any diff)

Feeding-Plenty of wild caught fish adapt to standard aquarium fare.

LFS buy fish from wholesalers usually, therefore most dealers may not be credible to ask, unless they know the fish came from a local breeder so asking may not be a sure fire answer.

Krib, I wasnt trying to pounce on anyone, I just dont think a lot of us realize we probably all have some wild caught fish. I apologize also if I hijacked your thread, but I obviously have some points I felt were necessary to make.
