Hey guys, my widow tetra has been swimming on its side lately, today and yesterday and i was wondering what could be wrong with it....
its only that one thats doing it, and ive been treating the tankw ith melafix for cloudy eye but im wondering if it could be a swim bladder problem?

please let me know. thanks
vixen

How many other black tetras are with him? How much do you feed them and how many times a day? What size tank it it? What are water conditions? What kind of filter do you use and is it at full force?

Also does the fish look bloated does he tip over, what do you feed the fish, what does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet, any signs of flicking and rubbing looking irratated, as parasites can sometimes cause them to lay to one side as well as swim bladder, try some shelled peas on him.

Yeah he may be constipated, does his stomach look really big or fat? If so most likley his stomach is pushing against the swim bladder and thats what could make him turn sideways. Just answer our questions and we can help. :)

well it doesnt look fat and i havent really watched it 'poo' but i did feed the tank a cube or brineshrimp and bloodworms 2 nights ago.... maybe that done it?

For now just try the pea trick add a few shelled peas, might be a slight case of swibladder that you can correct, good luck.

hey guys, its still like it today since i dont think it was eating any of the peas... is there anything i can do... i got a plastic breeding trap that i could put it in with a few peas.........
what you guys reckon?

Thanks alot
Vixen

Keep trying with her with the peas, might be best to issolate her, to see what she's eating, and what it looks like when the fish goes to the toilet, the peas are for constipation help the fish flush through, as constipation can show the same symptoms as swim bladder, it best to keep veg in there diet, as it keeps them going to the toilet.

i tried isolating her but she just layed on the bottom and wasnt eating the peas, and she looked rather dead. so i put her back in the main tank and well at least shes swimming about but still not eating

She's not sounding good, only thing left to do it try two drops of cod liver oil in her mouth, you will have to remove her from the tank for this procedure, wet a clean cloth in tank water and wrap her in it to adminstrate the drops, then don't feed her for two days.

Hey guys, well the tetra is looking much better today, still all over the place, but there has been improvement. I done the cod liver oil thing and it really does work so thank you guys, ill let you know how she goes :D

THIS IS THE BEST FORUM EVER! :alien:
