i looked up on the computer on how to make a betta breeding tank, my male made a good nest , but my female wont breed. i tried again a week from that and it wont work. i even got a different male, and she wont even breed?????????????????

how long are you leaving the together and how are you introducing her to him?

Does she get fat?

Does she get vertical bars?

Do you know how old she is?

Sorry to fire questions at you but all these could make a difference.

Also is you spawning tank some where "busy"? and how big is it?

ok after he has made a good nest, i introduce them. i leve them in for as long as it takes, but eventually i take her out cuz it wont work. i need some tips can u help me ?

you still didnt answer how old she is, is she getting eggy, does she have stress or vertical bars, have the fish been properly conditioned.

you sound kinda unprepaired here to be trying to breed without tons of research. I have researched for months and done tons of work for my bettas....and still you can have them not want to spawn.

What do you mean "for as long as it takes" ?

I've had a pair in the tank for 2 days before they finally bred, it takes time and patience it doesn't just happen. And she may not be "in the mood" same as humans.

How old is your pair, does she bar up (have you checked to see what this means) ?

Are you sure it is a female, maybe a male PK ?

Please give more details before we can assist, or better still read all the pinned topics available on this site about breeding before trying to mate them again.

theres your problem, how do you condition them before hand and for how long?

it could be a boy placket, they get even the best of us somtimes with their,, am i a boy or a girl looks,, you could try a different female,, theere could be other things too,,, most bettas arent spawnable if they are more than a year old,, maby two at the most if she was a pet store find you really have no idea how old the fish is. and secondly some fish just dont like each other and wont spawn at all. to hopefully have a sucessful spawn the male needs a really good nest,, not just a few bubbles but a good size or the female wont like it and will refuse,, they both have to be conditioned well,, lots of protine rich food for a few weeks, not have the tank in a busy area or where it could get bumped,,, or tapped on the glass but someone. the male is in the tank first then after he makes a nest put the female in the chiminy wait till she gets bared up top to bottom ,, not frount to back,,,and she is fat and full of eggs and her little ovisposert is sticking out then let them out and it may take a few days to spawn ,, but remove her if they are doing too much damage to each other.........are you ready for the 200 pluss fry that could result? they will need to be seperated by about 8 to 10 weeks old,, each in its own jar,,how are you going to keep the jars warm then? do you have baby fry food? what are you going to feed them? can you feed them at least 3 times a day?what size tank are you using as a spawn tank 20 us gal is the smallest i would go bigger is better,, what are you going to do with all the babies?? sell them give them away,, ???or can you keep 200 pluss babies if you cant get ride of them???do you have the space needed to do this,, can you devote about 2 to 4 hours a day to just doing water changes??

there is a ton more work than most people think revovling with breeding, and even the most experenced people can still have problems, so its not somthing to just jump in to even if you have read up on the subject.

wow azul rock on.... just so I didnt have to type that all out lol.

i have 2 females in with my male and thay never mate i think he must be useing a bad after shave lol the still nice to wach

watch them chase around and kill each other? males and females should never be kept together for any reason but spawning after being carefully conditioned. eventualy if you leave the two girls in with the boy he will get annoyed and kill them, or they will gang up and kill him.

I am not saying that you havnt had sucess so far, but the reality is some day you will wake up to dead or dieing fish.

nevin, I've researched breeding bettas for about a year and a half. Mine finally spawned today. You have to make sure they're conditioned, you have the time to take care of the fry, and the neccesary equipment. You just can't force animals to breed, they have to be ready for it.
