Hi everyone
i' thinking of getting a few guppies, i think they are absolutley beautiful little fish.I've got a peacefull community of mixed tetras at the moment. My question is that i keep reading about not getting all males or all females. Why? I do not want to breed so i don't want any little ones about. So what is the problem with the same sex????

No problem in having all males or all female Guppy as far as I can see :dunno:

There is no problem with keeping all one sex of guppy, some people keep only one sex. Some shops state that you need both sexes to boost sales, but I don't see the reason behind the book staring this though.

Maybe are you talking about the 2 F to 1 M ratio? I know my first inclination would be to get even numbers or if I didn't want lots of babies, 1 female to several males. I think alot of the books & stuff are addressing that more than if you want to keep one or the other. I have seen mention though, if you want to be sure of no babies, you have to get all males (even with all females, some could be pg).

You generally don't want a much larger number of males than females as the males harass the females to death.

All of one sex is fine.

you should get away with an all male group providing you get more than 5, an all female group will work too
