Why Is Everybody So Crazy For.........

Everytime i am on here their is always somebody looking for Java moss or somebody selling it. I am just wondering why everybody is so crazy about this wee green plant??

I used to have it in my tank without realising what it was and i used to pull great big strips of it off all the time as i hated it!!

What does it bring to your tank??

lol it just looks natural and kool over everything but i would perfer riccia it looks way more kool

It's easy to keep and versatile. I suppose that's it.

Easy to keep and is very versatile in that you can tie it to any rocks or wood (Check my planted Journal in my signature), or even as a carpet as shown above.

Look in the plant swap thread at the top of this forum, many people are offering it for free as it is a very fast grower!

I'm actually not a big fan of java moss. It is too light a green for my taste. I much prefer the brighter, deeper green and more bushy appearence of Christmas moss. But java moss is a fast grower, according to some.

Because It has so many advantages over other plants.

It's a fast grower.
It doesn't need special conditions to grow, like CO2 or fertilisers.
It looks good when spread along rocks and driftwood.
It can tolerate some brackish conditions.
Infact it can grow in soft and hard water with a high or low pH.
It provides a great refuge for fry,
and a good spawning medium for egg scatterers.

Wow everybody is given a big to the moss then!! Nice pics guys!!!! I wish to get my tank looking like that one day!! The moss i had must have been different from that stuff as it was a really dark green (maybe the christmas moss that was mentioned by LLJ) Maybe i should let the stuff keep growing then!! My mum and dad have loads of it!! might steal some from them and see what happens!!

I suppose it is easy to keep in check in the tank and i can always pull some out!!
