Why Hasn't She Dropped Yet?

Okay, so, I just HAD to ask this; Neika, my pregnant (supposedly ) mickey mouse platy is in the fry tank.... But I've been waiting for a *WEEK* and nothing has happened!!!! Could it be because I keep the tank at lower temperatures -- i.e., 20 degrees Celsius or 70 degrees Fahrenheit....?!

Please HELP!!!! DX

she'll drop when she's ready nothing you can do.

You could trap her and stress her to induce her giving birth but this could easily cause other problems. So she's best left to get on with it while she's happy.

At 20C, she will carry the fry a bit longer than at 25 but platies drop fry at 20C all the time with no problems. Temperature is not a major factor in fry drops except for the development time. At low temperatures, it can take 5 weeks instead of 4 weeks but we are not in the tropical fish breeding for maximum yield business, we are hobbyists and can wait a few days longer for a few fry.

The only thing is that my Mom is saying that if she doesn't give birth *SOON* then we'll have to move her back to her home tank. DX

I'm thinking of just maybe unplugging her lights and plugging in the heater, instead....? ^^;

It is a waiting game,i was like you at first,willing them to drop their cute little fry,even though its still exciting to see them but i don't tend to get impatient for them to drop now...

Well i do have 160 ish platy fry growing from 2 days to 6 weeks old,and i have just sold my first 16 young at 2 months old

You might be best plugging in the heater and leaving the lights off

A long as your female is not a real threat to the fry in that tank, she is better off in a birthing tank than in a community tank. I bet your mom can relate to the idea of letting the female relax and have her fry when she feels ready and not before. You might ask her about it in those terms when she is acting impatient with your female.
