Brief version - my severum has one white spot and is sulking a little meanwhile nearly all my other fish in the tank are breeding. And to make things more complicated Im going on holiday (with a gap inbetween) on saturday

Hi basically my main concern is from the sub title. I have 1 white spot on my Heros Severus just behind her head its not debris Im certain its white spot - but as said my Turquoise Rainbows just had an egg laying session in my floating plant! And my female Nicaraguan Cichlid has been diffing pits like she does when she wants to lay some eggs (no male to go with her but shes done it for a while now)

Ive tested my water and its Ammonia 0 and Nitrite 0 not got the Nitrate test but I imagine it could be high but not 100% - Ill explain.

I rescaped my tank this weekend and took out a substantial amount of plants to give my growing fish more swimming space however this was only on Monday so surely the nitrate would not have rocketed so fast? I do still have plants in there but probs somewhere in the region of 30% of what I had. My plan to rectify this is to get a lot more floating plants to provide cover (I was planning to do this anyway) and also to soak up neutirents as needed.

When I was rescaping the tank I found a few pockets under some wood of grey sand - now I know this is bad but I dont know how bad? Could this effect the fish?

My action so far has been to add a dose of Protozin the waterlife treatment and raise the temperature to 28/29. I plan to add a further dose tomorrow night and then one before I go away on Saturday - I am then going away for a few days but will be back tuesday night but will be leaving again on wednesday afternoon and be back saturday.

So what do I do - is there anything else I can do?

Also while I have been typing this I have just witnesed my Annostomus group (the adults) breeding as well I saw the eggs fall and then the other fish eat them..... My severum is a bit simple to put it nicley she is easily upset and I worry that the rescape has upset her personally and has allowed the parasite in I just worry now that this will burst while I am away and I cant catch it with the meds or will the med being in the water be okay? I prefer to dose this product each day - minxy recommended this to me and it worked a treat last time but if I dose - (today) wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday and then again on tuesday/wednesday - is that actually whats on the bottle?

So to recap - my severum has one white spot and is sulking a little meanwhile nearly all my other fish in the tank are breeding. And to make things more complicated Im going on holiday (with a gap inbetween) on saturday

Thanks Wills

Is it not worth moving your Sev to a QT tank for medication? If the infection in contagous, I personally would hate to come back to a tank full of ill fish.

Ive not go a QT tank big enough to take her, even as a temporary solution shes going to need a three foot tank. Just hoping that the medicine will stick in the water for the duration and clear it up that way.

Just an update - the spot has gone but added an other day of doses to the tank, this morning it got like a small white film around the edge and looked like a pimple but like I say its gone now this has happened once before with her so will just have to learn what it is I dont think its ich but as I had a few other fish flicking Im glad I tret the tank :)

Glad things appear to be sorting themselves out before your break.

I checked my adult Pearl Danios in the QT a while back and it appears that the "mystery single pimples" on the lower mouth of two of them are rapidly disappearing after this morning's "day 2 dose" of Waterlife Myxazin... I can't wait to put them back into the Rio 240 and introduce them to both the Opsarius puchellus and the (five?) surving fry that hatched while they've been in hospital (in a breeding net with baby Rabbit Snail)!

Well Ive come back during my break in the holiday and the spot is back.... it wasnt there when I left but it is back.

I think best thing to do is leave temperature low for now to prolong the life of it till I get home to treat properly. Rest of the fish seem fine if a litle shy but they have been in the dark for a few days and lights on for a bit at 9pm to check they were okay...
