My larger Bolivian Ram Cichlid has started digging a hole in the corner of the tank using its tail.

Any ideas why?

Believe there is only 1 male with it so nothing along those lines

It's horny or mad or bored. They spawn in the san. He could just be feeling ready for a family. Some times they do this to show it's their space. I have had a few cichlids do this digging my keyhole did this. My true parrot will dig a place where she like to hang out. Cichlids are just weird fish.

haha, well i guess i will see, shame the lady in the shop couldnt tell males from females :(

Here is a photo, it has been kicking up huge piles of sand in the water and now moving it with his mouth to the rim of the hole.

ODD! Cant find anything online :(

Sounds like he is happy and getting ready for a family or just setting up the tank how he like it. It's normal for cichlids to dig. He is a cute little guy.
